I keep putting this purchase off and I'd like to have it in my hands this weekend. I want something under $150. A medium to large softbox for portraits. If possible I'd like to get it from Samys since they are local but i'll order it from BH if I must.

What do I get that my flashes will easily mount to? I'm all confused.

pick up a Photoflex litedome kit. It'll set you back about $145 from Adorama. It comes with everything you need to mount it to your speedlight and to a light stand.

The Small LiteDome Kit with Swivel and Stand offers greater flexibility for use with a shoe-mount style flash unit.

    The kit includes:
    Small LiteDome soft box (XT-1SLD293)
    Adjustable Shoe Mount Hardware (AC-B222SM)
    Basic Connector for LiteDome
    LiteStand 2205 (LS-B2205)
    Shoe Mount MultiClamp (AC-BSWCP)
This kit is used to soften the light output of your shoe-mount style flash. Includes a LiteStand and hardware for stable light placement.

The face of the Small LiteDome is 16"x22". The diffusion face is easily removed, allowing you to go from soft, diffused lighting to high-contrast without changing your setup.

Small LiteDome soft box works with our small Dome Accessory Kit and small Grids (available separately), giving you great control over light direction.

    Features and Benefits:
Removable Face - allows you to adjust the natural, soft light to create just the right diffusion and contrast
    LiteStand extends to 7' 8"

That's the one. The only drawback is that it tends to swivel in any kind of wind.

Sand bags are needed for the base. The head still swivels however. I suppose mine is simply a bit loose.

Oh, BTW an alternative to the Photoflex box is the Lastolite EZYBOX Hotshoe model. It's got some advantages over the Photoflex box in that it's collapsible like a reflector for easy carrying and it's available in a larger 24" x 24" size (or a 15x15 also).

    It is more expensive though.

thats why this morning I ordered another flash, and some cactus triggers. This on camera flash (430ex, not built in flash) just isn't cutting it for a lot or stuff. I also found a $100 check I forgot I had to cash yet, so that made my $150 purchase = $50

Next time look at amvona for bags, I haven't found any place that's cheaper. They also sell on ebay for close out stock at pretty killer prices.

Doesn't everyone bitch about the quality of Cactus triggers and how they are unreliable? :dunno:

    Elinchrom Skyport FTW.

yea, but im no pro, and on a limited budget right now (spent too much money on glass :wiggle: )

I also hear they really only suck when the batteries are low

and it would have cost me $300 if i went with the skyports (one transmitter and two recievers) instead I paid $50

I needs to gets me one of these too

I really shouldn't spend any more money for a while though, I get paid tomorrow, almost all of it is rent, bank account is about dry, need food and gas to get to work... ok, maybe no food... but gas at least.

and I really want to quit my job, because im tired of having communication failures with my boss (hard headed old school Italian dude, who speaks very broken/soft english, unless he gets pissed, then you cant understand a word of his yelling). I was trying to verify what he said to me today, and he blew up saying "I am 3 times your age, you shouldn't be trying to teach me things" (or something like that) He was trying to teach me something, and I just repeated what he said, with correct? at the end. cause I wanted to make sure I had what he said correct.
