So some old hick comes into my camera store today and says the above...

He was looking for a camera, but made it clear he didn't want "a chink camera" and that he'd like to buy in the US. When I told him we didn't have any cameras manufactured in the US he got all pissy and left, mumbling something about America going to hell.

Another customer called in on the phone to check the price of some L glass, when I gave our price (which is about $50 more than B&H) the customer said, "I'm not paying that much you bunch of Jews, I can get it cheaper at B&H!"... My head almost exploded.

Anyone else in camera retail feeling the holiday stupidity coming in or just want to share your stupid/rude customer experiences? Someone has to have some good ones!

wow. got to love retarded ignorance

i try to support the local camera stores when I can. i tried to get a few nikon rear caps locally but they were all out. i didnt care they wanted $15/cap instead of $10/cap at B&H.

their filter prices are insane though. i always see at least 50% more at this store for filters. they carrry a few B&W and no Rodenstock. It's all generic shit.

fuck that... I'm not paying retail at a local store when I don't have to pay tax *and* full retail at B&H, Adorama, etc. If I need something like right now, maybe. But in most cases, saving money on tax, shipping, and waiting a couple of days is a-ok w/ me!

i will compare. for instance, the sb-600 would have been like $20 cheaper at B&H. i would have had to wait 3 days.

i got it locally for $20 more. i supported a local store and got it right away. i think that is worth it. i dont want local places to go away. they provide a place to touch/feel shit and rent lenses/equipment

The markup on those is almost 100%. If you buy a lens we usually automatically knock off 10%, a lot of times around 50% if we know you. We carry few B&W because they charge pretty much retail prices for small shops unless you buy like 100 at a time, which small places can't.

We do have Promaster HGX filters which are rumored to be rebranded (just like Pro does with Tamron and Tokina) Hoya filters. We've got those pretty reasonable. 77mm for like $50 retail and the coatings on them are great, just like my B&W MRC's. I just got a Circ-Pol to try out, looks solid.

I understand old people wanting to do this, and can understand younger people doing it too. However, the fact that they base their entire decision making process on this fact alone and will do without if it doesn't fit the requirements boggles my mind.

I'm all for creating american jobs and supporting them by buying their products. But i'll be damned if I am going to use that as my entire decision making process.

I hope it was, but knowing our client base and regional aptitudes I'm sure it was a legit call. Our clientele consists of a bunch of mouth breathers.
