    I need to buy a light, portable laptop for school that is capable of doing mostly school stuff. Reading e-books, internet, typing. I need good battery life and portability.

    EEE = garbage?

    Any other ideas?

    I heard the battery life is shit...

    From what I understand the m1330 has the best battery life of its type.
    (with 9cell)

    Why are Toshiba laptops shunned upon? I don't see them in any top 10 list of best computers and people rarely mention them... but I tried a few and they look nice and run pretty well. I tried an ultra portable one, and I was impressed.

    I just bought a Toshiba for $600 with a Turion TL-60, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HD, and ATi X1200 graphics and it runs Linux and Vista very well. I just use it for surfing the net and music while my desktop runs my games.

    I just got Dell XPS M1530 for my brother who is a college student. She just got it for some basic surfing, emails, gaming, studying, etc. I think it's pretty cool for school. Maybe it's suitable for you.

    I'm with Jolly on this one. For that much money, you could get a Lenovo and have no worries.

    They have problems with heatstroke.

    Look at Fujitsu's offerings. I've been impressed with their computers in the past.
