Ok so I have been a PC guy all my life, I got two laptops and two desktops right now.. and I am pretty proficient at it. I have been exposed to apple a few times and I enjoy it..

I didn't want to get a powerbook or ibook... first I wanted to try something stationary..

what do you guys think? Any recommendations?

This is probably the states of the one I am getting:

    • 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 DIMM
    • 80GB Ultra ATA drive
    • 4x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    • AirPort Extreme Card
    • 56K v.92 Modem
    • Mac OS X - U.S. English
    • 1.42GHz PowerPC G4

***This is not a I hate PC threads***

    Thanks people :bigthumb:

I'd throw in the internal bluetooth while you're at it too. If you don't use bluetooth now, you will. :)

While 512 is fine, I would seriously look at upping the ram with an aftermarket company. Rule of thumb: NEVER buy Apple memory: too expensive and they just Crucial's which you can buy from crucial's site cheaper.

:werd: on the bluetooth suggestion... that + Sony Ericsson phone = god, it's indispensible for me now.

and even if you don't have a SE phone, you might find yourself wanting it for the optional wireless keyboard / mouse, etc. don't forget that it's a combo wifi + BT option so you would have 802.11g as well for only $89 more I think :coold:

For Mac Mini, I thought you couldn't upgrade ram by yourself?

There's a thread in here somewhere where someone posted a video on how to open the mini. I have the vid on my HD I think.

Aside from the cpu, it's pretty much the same hardware you'll find in a PC. It's just a matter of opening it up and getting in there, and it seems SoKo posted a vid to help with that. Also, as I understand it, Apple would "prefer" you don't do it yourself, but it won't void your warranty or anything if you do.

it'll sync all phone numbers in your address book to the phone, and any appointments / To Do lists you have in iCal :coold:

also, if you go download the program "Romeo" (search versiontracker.com) any scriptable function of OS X can be done via your phone... I use mine as an iTunes remote, powerpoint remote, you can even do useless shit like move your mouse with it :coold: :coolugh: awesome though. Romeo is freeware, too :bigok:

I just picked up a 1GB stick at Fry's today and put it in my Mini. It made a SHITLOAD of difference. Apple shouldn't even sell the 256MB configuration--it's a joke.

although macs > *, besides the PowerMac G5 and mac laptops. apple stuff isnt anything special, the only thing different from PCs are the look and OS. If you want a get a mac, get a laptop  its the only way to go. you wont be dissapointed
