A&P I used to hate my Sigma 100-300 f4... now I love it. Huge 100% crops (of football)

Yes, it still front focuses near the minimum focusing distance (on the 30D, it was fine on the 1D), but I can live with it. This lens may be sharper than I once thought. Here are three full size crops shot at f4.

I would recommend this lens to anybody looking for a good way to get to 300mm @f4 for less than the cost of the Canon 300mm f4 prime.

Processed in RAW. Sharpening set to 4 in DPP

    Both of them.

You'll also notice all of these were taken under 150mm. I would not have been able to get these with the 300 prime.

    Kudos to Sigma for making both a 100-300 f4 and a 120-300 2.8.

Hopefully Canon will catch up in the fast telephoto zoom area. Obviously their telephoto primes can't be beat.

Nice shots, but your lens is really dirty. Time to clean it. :hs:

I'm not seeing any effects of dirt or smudges in these pictures.

    :dunno:

    What are you seeing?

Last picture. Look to the left of the player. Dust everywhere.

I suppose you're right. I whiped it off just now and shined a flashlight through it. Looks good.

Hard to keep them clean sometimes heh.

It's mostly on the last shot, but I can see half a dozen big, clearly defined, black specks. I see a couple spots on the other two as well.

One thing I can't help but notice is the out of focus areas. It looks really weird.

That's just his mouthpiece. They're black and yellow. Bad call on whoever decided for a yellow mouthpiece.

Well.... even after having it re-chipped, it still front-focuses (severely near the min focusing distance to the point where it's unusable).... it is sharp though.

I tried (for about 2 days) a 24-70 2.8 from sigma... softest lens I've ever used.
