At the park they had some rings there and after I helped the kids do some assisted pullups (ages 2 and 4) I decided I'd try to do an iron cross. I'm freakin' weak...failed after my arms were at about a 45 degree angle to my body. Being heavy definitely doesn't help in this case. I can hold myself in an iron cross -esque position on two solid beams that are arms length apart but them rings just killed me.

    Anyone else every try this?

(It didn't help that my back is a little messed up right now either).

This is arms straight out from your body? I don't think I could do that, or even come close.

my uncle is pretty big and when he was at some florida college, for one of the classes the teacher said if anybody can do an iron cross on the rings they'll get an A for the class and never have to come. after everyone tried and failed the teacher said he did it every semester and nobody came close, this was like 10 years ago.

When I tried it years ago in high school and at university I couldn't get my arms flat 180 degrees but slightly above. Gymanstics teacher was impressed.

never had a gymnastics student come in and do it? seems kinda odd that never happened.

Iron cross requires a ton of dynamic balance and explosive strength. It takes a lot of years and dedication to prepare the body to do such a thing.
