I just changed the oil about 100 miles shy of the 3000 mile mark and it was about 1 1/4 quart low on oil. :(

I'll be keeping a really close eye on my oil over the next 3000 miles. Hopefully the local Nissan dealership won't give me any problems if I tell them there's a problem. :(

I'm still going to keep liking this car even if the engine is bad... isn't the problem in general that the pre-cat is disentigrating and getting sucked back into the engine?

However, if the dealership doesn't honor their end of the warranty I can see myself becomming an anti-Nissan nazi. I don't have the money for a new engine.

Oh, and it certainly isn't an oil leak. The engine is clean enough to eat off of.

Don't modify the car, if you have, de-mod it. Honestly I wouldn't worry at this point. My SR20DE'd 2001 SE drank oil too. Yes, the problem is the pre-cat.

My Civic is leaking oil. I'm going there this Saturday to find out what's wrong.

You better talk to Renaultfreak. It sounds like you're heading down the exact same path he just ended.

    I'm not surprised.

No modifications, as I said the car is completely stock. It still has the same tires it rolled off the assembly line on.

Oh mate that fuckin sucks...:( mine used to burn about 1 qt every 300 miles, the average for all the 3 engines and 9k miles was about a quart every 600 miles...

It's all downhill from here, take it to the dealer asap and start complaining and telling them you know there is a problem so you avoid all those "consumer neglected the oil level" problems...been there done that got the tshirt.

    THREE ENGINES????

I have receipts and documentation, the oil has been changed. Fortunately the previous owner took care to mark everything down in the maintenance book. I went an extra step and kept the top off of the oil filter box when I changed it today.

I'll swing by the dealership tomorrow. Will they give me problems if I told them I changed the oil myself?

My car uses oil too. It keeps the engine parts moving smoothly.

no, you better tell them you got the oil replaced at some professional place, they are saying that costumers are neglecting the cars.

I got my first engine replaced at 2.5k miles, it was worse than the first one and they performed the oil consumption test which consists of and oil change and a 1k miles trip, well my engine seized at 900 miles so I needed a 3rd engine...:hs: during the test you are not allowed to even check it, of course I did but returning from Poughkeepsie the engine just used 1 quart in like 200 miles... I saw the blue smoke and I knew exactly what would happen.

RenaultFreak... is there anything I should or shouldn't do to cover my ass on this?

I understand, no modifications, that's given. How do they determin that there's a problem with the engine? How long does it take for them to swap them out?

Thank God for a 60k mile powertrain warranty.

What's wrong with Mobil 1? ...and the owners manual recommended 5w/30. It's only been in the car for about two hours now.

No, but you HAVE to be persistent. They will try to blow you off guaranteed. MY rear main seal went on my 01, they didn't believe me even after I took digi pics of the leak. I brought it to Nissan the first time, they cleaned the underbody of the car. It took me 3 months of fighting.
