This was actually a while ago, not sure how long.

I was doing my normal routine and when it came to deadlift time i messed up my back somehow not sure what :wtc: might be a pull from a bad form or something.

Anyways I didn't think much of it but decided to skip my next deadlift day to let it rest, but about 5 days later i had my clean and press day.

So I thought, cool clean and press targets the back lightly so it can't be too bad, that's when I REALLY messed up my back.

I was pretty out of it for a week then it felt better so i went back to do light light deadlifts and light squats.

Bam again I mess it up, I say fuck it, no deadlifting for a month and no squats for two weeks.

so two weeks passes, I go back and I do my squats, Everything goes smoothly.

Next week I do another set of squats and LIGHT(as in just the barbell light) dead lifts, back started hurting a bit again, so I stopped halfway through my deadlift session and decide to follow through with that 1 month. Back feels better in about two days

today(another week passes) I go back and do squats and I mess up my back again :ugh:, wasn't even that heavy, I was doing my warm up sets when I hurt myself.

I don't know, I told my mom that I want to go see a chiropractor, but what does OT think of this :o

it hurts doing squats and deads? I have a problem if I go a2g my lower back curves. It's due to poor hamstring flexiblity. dunno if that helps

I have this same problem but it's actually do to poor balance... your hams don't need to be that flexible for squats I don't think.... I've only tried this twice but it's worked really well both times: before you squat, do a couple medium-weight sets of lunges, hyperextensions, or GHRs... Even RDL's or SLDLs will probably work for the same purpose (you only need to do a few sets of one of the exercises, not all of them)... What I'm pretty sure is going on is my glutes and hams don't activate properly during squats, so by working them pre-squat, they're more engageable because they've been stimulated neurologically and they're also warmed up. I checked my form the last two times squatting and the lowe rback is a lot better, plus my entire torso is a lot more vertical and less leaned over. If my logic is flawed, feel free to correct me... Either way the effect is the same.

    Try it.

maybe take some vids so you can see what your form is like :dunno: if you don't have a video camera then try to find somebody who knows how to DL and squat properly and ask them to observe you.

I used to do it fine, then i went to orientation for college and got back it all went downhill :wtc:

it's not just when i do it, pain lasts for a few days and comes back when i run/sqiat/deadlift, you name it :wtc:

yet you probably round your back to achieve that depth, putting your intervertebral discs at risk

No, they are not, if you want maximum leg strength they are the way to go. When ever you can work through an entire range of motion.

Oh I don't know, why would you go to an orthopedic specialist for your back instead of some dumbass who is going to "adjust" your spine.

ever since I stopped going ATG my back hasnt bugged me at all

Ceaze is 100% right. You can even see it in most squatters - when people try to hit super depth they roll forward at the bottom

Anyone else have any advice on how to keep the back straight on a2g squats?

Skeletor I'll try that, but I will not be doing a2g squats in a long time.

just dont go as deep. read those squat RX videos I posted awhile ago.

I only go as deep as I can while keeping my lower back arched. its around quads to parallel I think.

    ^ :werd:

I'm seriously considering trying other back excercises or just staying at a constant weight for deadlifts after this injury
