they have Canon International warranty cards instead of US/Canada, does this actually mean anything? Canon will still take them back if there are problems, right? :dunno:

I could still return them easily, but I got a really good deal :o

I'm not sure what the international warranty cards look like, but my US ones say "CANON INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY" up top, then directly below that say "CANON U.S.A., INC CANON CANADA INC."

As for whether or not Canon will take them back, usually they only care about the reciept from a US authorized dealer. If you don't have the reciept (even if you have the warranty card) they probably won't take them.

Top one is the "normal" one i believe, the bottom is what came with these lenses. They were bought from a US dealer... in fact both those cards came from the same store. I dunno why the hell these have different cards :wtc:

Yeah, mine looks like the red one. Did you order a USA lens and they sent you the grey market one? Which vendor?

They didn't specify, but I assumed since I got a 40d, 430ex and 100-400L from them WITH the US warranty this would be the same. I ordered it through AAFES (Military sales basically) and this is the only shit they say on the site:

I called canon and they said if the lens needed repairs that I'd have to deal with the Azn branch since it's not technically a US version (the only difference to seems like the warranty card, everything else is in english). The can still repair internal components in the US but they'd have to send it overseas for body damage (even though the body looks identical to the US version :hsugh:)

It's the exact same lens. I'm not sure why they do this, the parts are the exact same.

When did Canon start to care about gray market items? I thought that was only Nikon thing. :dunno:

why does military sales charge more for this lens than a normal retail for a reputable vendor charges. Is this going overseas or something?

I paid $437.25 shipped for my 70-200/4L last summer just by shopping around :hs:

the 70-200/2.8L IS is only $1,689.97 at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006I53X/).. that's a lot less than $1849.00

If you saved a lot of money, just hope that nothing goes wrong.

If you didn't save a lot of money, return and buy somewhere else.

Where do you want me to be

AAFES prices are usually pretty high, but they price match easily + no tax + no shipping. These were coming from an AAFES Japan warehouse apparently.

Both copies seem pretty fuckin sharp so I'm gonna hang on to them and get insurance... the Canon warranty would have only lasted a year anyways I guess :o
