What a fun gun. I want to get a revolver for my next gun so I went to my range and rented one. The only thing that discourages me from buying it is the price. My gun shop has it in .357 for $477. It's the bobbed hammer version, great for when my CCW goes through. I saw other guns of similar size for much cheaper. ie. Taurus, S&W. I know OT isn't a fan of those two brands but don't they make good revolvers?

The DAO kinda threw me off at first but after 25 rounds I quickly got used to it.

Anyone here own a Ruger SP101? Can you recommend something else I should check out for my first revolver type gun that is small and snub nosed?

I'de buy Taurus or S&W over Ruger, as far the s&w most people arent fans of there autos but there revolvers are good.

S&W makes excellent revolvers and auto's, I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of either.

They had a Taurus there with a ~2" barrell in .38 for $299. It was in the used cabinet but looked brand new.

Taurus seem pretty decent for the money, my only revolver is a Colt .357 its a nice gun but I'm not much into wheel guns. I would say look into a .357 though that way you can carry good stuff and still practice using cheaper .38 rounds.

I've got an sp101 in .357, it's DAO, I think I paid $369 for it. Ruger makes good revolvers, they are built like friggin tanks. I carried mine for almost 2 years as a backup gun.

Shop around for a better price, $477 is a ripoff.

Between Taurus, Ruger and S&W revolvers the Ruger would be my last choice.

Thanks for the price info. My gun shop seems to mark up their prices pretty bad. I've stopped looking at the gun cabinets when I go to the range as of late.

I love Ruger revolvers. I hunted with a Ruger Super Redhawk for years and yes, they make them like tanks. You really can't go wrong with any of the 3 though.
