Yep. Looks like indoor tennis. It sucks. Tennis is an interesting sport to shoot. Im still trying to get all the angles on it myself. Ive only taken a few that I like.

Those are probably the least flattering photos that will ever be taken of those women. That includes someone taking pictures of them with a camera phone while they are so drunk that they are shitting on a sidewalk. Worse than taking a shooting straight down the birth canal while a giant, slimy, bloody baby head comes shooting out, and the bulging jugular veins from her pushing form the bokeh.

 this is what you post every time someone criticizes your work. Maybe you just need to accept the fact that you did a bad job, and work to get better.

I think you might have been able to capture better facial expressions and body movements if you shot in burst mode. I'm not a sports shooter, but if I was, for every moment I wanted to capture, i'd use the camera to fire off 3-5 shots and then pick the best one later. I think this is how the pro's do it, anyhow.

She's gotten skinnier since I last photographed her.

Part of the reason I bought the 85 1.2 is to photograph indoor tennis, then the AA told me they were never interested in indoor tennis shots. I did shoot ONE indoor tournament when they were in their "something or other for the cure" pink uniforms, but other than that... no indoor tennis.

what are you talking about :ugh:

I've said that maybe one other time in my entire life.

I can't control how they look when I take the picture. I took over 200 shots and they didn't look good in any of them.

what you are not understanding is that theres only one interesting moment, and that is when the ball is in the frame for a split second, so if I'm capturing the ball, their facial expression isn't going to change much from the second the ball enters the frame to the second it leaves the frame.

so if I'm shooting a "burst" as you put it, I only get 1 frame with the ball in it, maybe 2. so that is not the best way to do it, you end up with a bunch of photos with no ball in it.

so its easier to time it correctly, and take one shot with the ball in it, rather than taking 6 and deleting 5.

so, that being said, I don't think I did "a bad job" - if you have any other tips, feel free to let me know :ugh:

85 wouldn't have been anywhere long enough from where they told me to stand. I was basically even with the net right below the scorekeeper. but this was just practice, so I don't know where they let you stand during matches....

but most of those shots were at 160-200mm

 OK, bro. I guess pro's who shoot 1000-2000 shots per game are wrong in their approach, and you're right.

Hey it's not my problem, continue ignoring criticism and taking shitty pictures and see where it gets you (nowhere).

BTW, most cameras are capable of 3-5 FPS, giving you a good chance of having the ball in the shot. And for what it's worth (nothing), in my opinion having the ball in the frame isn't nearly as important as having the players look good.

sports pictures without ball = instant fail.

    i'm shooting athletes, not models.

yes, maybe if i took 2000 pictures I would've gotten a handful with the ball and them looking decent, but i'm shooting for a school newspaper, and i'm not about to blow my shutter out so I can get a flattering picture of a tennis player.

I don't ignore criticism, look in my past threads for basketball, football, dance, anything, i am always open to good advice - but what you are saying is not good advice. i have a ton of pictures on my card where they look decent with no ball, but to me they are extremely boring. whatever...

at least you got one thing right here, your opinion isn't worth a fucking thing. The fact that you would suggest shooting a sport without the ball or object of action in the frame is fucking ridiculous.

They're not great, but they're not terrible. They'll be perfectly fine for a school newspaper.

You have to admit though, the hate in this thread is hilarious...
