i had a samsung 1.5TB hard drive develop tons of bad sectors after about 3 months. RMAd it

now my western digital 1.5TB hard drive is extremely sluggish. it works, but having to write a file to it can take 5 -6x longer than usual. also, sometimes it will just not show up as connected to my system, not even in device manager. then i reboot and its there. causes my system to stay on a black screen for 20 extra seconds upon bootup when its connected.
i tried swapping the sata cord and put it in another system with similar results
reading from the drive usually works ok, but something it slows to a crawl.
guess i have to RMA this one also
    other people have similar issues:

Yeah, the 1.5 TB WDs have been having issues from the get go, i think firmware related? I picked up two of them before I learned about it. I hope they don't fail on me either. :(

i've been buying a lot of 1.5TB drives
sticking with WD Green (WD15EADS), Seagate LPs (ST31500541AS), and Samsung EcoGreen F2s (HD154UI)

none have died yet (oldest batch are 8-9 months old)
    my fav are the Samsungs

I'm just curious, when you did your os install, did you load sata drivers or did you set it to emulate ide?

All five of my Seagate 7200.11's have been great. Have another two coming and as well as a WD Green WD15EARS. I can only hope they do as well.
