both here and other forums, yet outside my college sports gym, I don't think I've seen more than 5 people in 6 years work out with more than 315 while squatting. discuss.

I see 405 squats all the time at my super commercial gym...albeit they are quarter squats, but still 405 :mamoru:

I hardly ever seen anyone DLing. I've seen maybe 1 or 2 other people at my gym ever DL more than 225 :coolugh:

go and watch the squats at any commercial gym and you'll realize why so many people say they can squat over 400lbs. I could raw squat 650 for reps if I used the ROM most gym people use.

I constantly see people at the gym squatting 3+ plates per side...it's just a damn shame that they're barely doing 1/8th of a squat. Whenever I see someone doing that I say to my friend, "That guy tells people he squats 315+lb"

Seeing someone put 405 or more on the bar and squat it in a typical university or commercial gym is very rare. I've got a couple PL dudes at my commercial gym that roll up with knee wraps and old-school belts and will do 500+ but other than that i've rarely seen it happen.

In the football weight training gym we used in high school 400lb squats were pretty regular for the top guys.

yea when I'm lurking in the logs squats are one number I take with a grain of salt. Theres no point in even calling people out on it.

In college, only the girls did squats. In fact one of the PT's taught an entire class of sorority girls one day. All he showed them was stiff legged deadlifts, lunges, and squats. Blessed is that man. This one girl used to do lunges in the smith machine :ugh: but damn did she have a great ass.

I think one time I saw a guy throw up 315 for some legit squats. Probably saw 2 people regularly deadlifting. One dude was doing clean and jerk like 20 reps at a time and the whole gym just stared at him like he was insane. All this in a gym with a dedicated dl platform and two cages. Though this was really the pussy gym, hardcore guys went to the ghetto gym. I went their because the hot girls did, and I had the deadlift platform to myself. :coold:

I squat in the 4's weekly (at correct depth) at my local commerical gym... I see a quite a few people using lower weights and 1/4 squatting too...

On a side note, there was a guy who came into the gym about a month ago worked up to about 575 for singles with a belt and wraps, left and never saw him again - dude was a beast.

No one even squats or deadlifts here. They all run to the hack squat, load it up with 5 plates on each side and then do 1/16 squats.

There are very few guys at my gym that lift heavy. There's one guy that's really big. He was doing bent over rows with 405 a couple weeks ago. There's another bigger dude that I saw repping 405 on incline, he's pretty old too, probably over 50. That's about it. Most guys bench 225 half way or squat 135 in the smith machine. The squat rack only gets used for curls and pullups.

I've seen one guy DL'ing one time with 135.

I can't say shit about squat numbers. But as others have said, it's the internet so people tend to exaggerate a bit. Also, not many people at my gym get proper ROM.

A friend of mine laughed at me the other day when I told him I squatted 365x2 last week. Two days before that some normal looking 45 year old was telling him that he just started squatting again and hit 365x5. I immediately pictured this guy on the smith doing quarter squats at best.

There are probably only 3 or 4 people that I have seen work with 315 or above in my gym.

I think I've seen a 225 squat once or twice, a 95lb deadlift once, and a 65lb good morning. I don't believe that people here exaggerate. We just actually DO the lifts as opposed to those in commercial gyms who don't even have a number to give you. I mean if you squat/dl regularly it shouldn't take you too long to put up a good number

Well, you have to figure that a majority of us here who ACTUALLY TRAIN HARD are stronger than most typical gym rats.

That considered, I doubt there are more than maybe a handful of dudes here who could actually unrack, walk out, and squat 405+ for 2 or more clean reps (clean meaning good depth, strong core, no hunching, etc...)

BDR, GTlifter, 2000GT, Maine, Cpop, Pur... I am sure there are a few more but you get my point.
