I've been using them for quite awhile now. Their support is honestly first class. We bother them every week with stupid shit and they always help us/install shit/ fix what we broke and never charge extra. I always hear about these problems with you guys' hosts and wonder why I'm so lucky :o

I do pay them over 300 a month tho for my box :o

How big a site(s) are you trying to host? I can set you up with a couple accounts on my server for a fee...

Windows box? Possibly interested if so. Although this is really what vps's are for. I manage one right now and it's great. You really get a lot for $100/month with a vps

as far as portal/management softlayer has it down but as far as support ont he phone etc liquidweb is where its at plus with softlayer it costs 3 dollars for every ticket you created for tech support they won't do phone support.

I have 3 servers at liquidweb and about 4 at softlayer.

Going from VPS to Shared is adowngrade; if you were going from Shared to VPS or VPS to Dedicated (or shared to dedicated) those would be an upgrade.... then the migration would probably be free.

At least, that's how it is with most hosts that offer data migration services AFAIK.... :wavey:

My personal favorites are ASO and The Planet. ASO support will bend over backwards for me. The Planet tells me to figure it out on my own. Still satisfied with both however.

SoftLayer is amazing. Their control panel is also completely seperate from WHM - you would have it as well on your server, if you wanted. Their control panel is made to do all sorts of cool shit.

All of the following is done on the fly:

Reload the OS on the server
    Add/remove software (Control panels, etc)
    Add NAS/IPs instantly
    Reboot, IPMI and Power strip
    Setup reverse dns
    Port speed changes
    Bandwidth & IPMI displays
    Monitoring system management
    VPN setup
    Add Cisco ASA firewall
    Manage firewall rules
    Nessus scan

and more. You simply can't compare it to WHM. They don't serve the same function at all.

As for the $3/ticket thing, they'll also do just about anything when answering a ticket. Lots of people will tell stories about how they've had SoftLayer techs perform services that normally would only be done by a company that does managed hosting.

I'm real tired of paying for my servers each mont (1 redhat box, one media server).

I have been considering buying a blade server and just renting out some of the blades. The problem with that is I need to find a /24 in swamp space I can snag because i won't be using an ISP that can assign me some.

    So 2 questions:

    1. Anyone know someone that might be interested in swipping me a /24

    2. I have space / power / bandwidth in a data center.. but its kind of a 'under the radar' kind of thing. Can anyone recommend a decent colocation provider? I'd need less than a half of rack. 10ru at most.
