I mostly use MySQL/InnoDB, but have done a lot of SQL Server and some SQLite stuff and... never really got around to using PostgreSQL until recently. I always heard about features it had that MySQL didn't, like stored procedures/triggers in more languages (Perl, and lots of others), etc. I dig the namespaces, and once you get used to it the psql client is just as good as mysql's. I think I will be switching over for my projects in the future.

i used to use postgres heavily. However, over the last 9 years MySQL has really come up to the plate and become a great entry/mid-level enterprise database server. Personally I don't see a need for postgres within my scope.

MySQL even overlaps a lot with MSSQL, although at the top end MSSQL starts to shine. Then you get into DB2 and what-not.

with "cheap" hardware becoming increasingly powerful, and products like MySQL maturing like they are, and clustering being so easy, then yes, DB2 is out of reach for most people.

However, when you get into that big-iron class, such as banks, or big retail chains like Best Buy you start using stuff like IBM Z-series and all of the sudden DB2 makes a lot of sense.
