I have narrowed my choice down to two cameras. I'm no photographer as most would say I just like to point and shoot with decent quality during action shots.

They are basicly the same camera but one has 6x zoom(what ever that means) but doesn't do sound during video. The other is 3x zoom but does sound during video.

I really like the sound cause I want sound during my little video clips. But will I really need the extra 3x zoom:dunno:. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh they are the Lumix DMC FX12k and DMC-LZ6S

It's a camera, not a camcorder. Look at it that way son.

You will get more responses if you give links...

    here:
    DMC-FX12K

    DMC-LZ6S

I would personally get the FX12K for its smaller size alone. The sound in videos is also nice. IMO 3x & 6x isnt that much of a difference. the only thing going for the LZ6S, is the cheaper price.

I totally understand that but when I track my car I like to use the little cams for my in-car cam shot and sound is a much. Watching a car vid without sound is just :greddy: even if the vid quality is so so.

Sorry for not posting links but I was thinking the same thing. I would rarely use all the extra zoom but the vid sound is a must. They both have 7mg pix so regular picture quality is the same.

Buy a cheap used mini DV camera. Longer recording times and a lot better video quality. Then buy a camera for use as a Camera.

is the zoo digital or optical.. digital zoom is pointless.. i wouldn't get a camera based on digital zoom even if it was 20x.. digital zoom loses picture quality.

if u want a good point and shoot.. canon or nikon.. maybe sony.. sony has decent point and shoots.

as for SLR.. canon and nikon

if you want videos, buy a camcorder. if you want pictures, buy a camera.
you can get a flash-memory camcorder for between $80 and $100 that will beat the video features of the p&s camera.

Might be worth taking a look at the Canon A710IS and Ricoh R6.

i agree that you should get one for each but if thats not an option. the sony cyber shots have pretty okay video with sound and a good amount for zoom etc. most of them are being made with carl zeiss lenses now a days too.
