AEs don't get a penny and haven't in the past 6 years at least. There's a .5 for zone A (I think) reserve AEs that just came out, but that's it.

I don't get why people should be patted on the back for re-enlisting, or even receiving a bonus for that matter.

It's a job and you want to keep it. That should be enough of an incentive.

Because they are extending on their initial obligation to serve their country. It's a person volunteering their time and possibly life. Bonuses are a great thing to keep experienced service members in the military.

Understandable, but I still feel bad about incentives because I've seen them get abused.

Ie. Soldier re-enlists in Iraq for a tax free bonus, gets knocked up, and comes home. A guy gets out of deployment by re-upping for a non-deployable location 1 month prior to his unit's departure and receives a $5k bonus. Another guy reclasses prior to deployment for his job of choice 2 months before we leave. Another guy re-enlisted for ONE DAY past his ETS for a 6 month school op program when he returned stateside.

I just wish there was a way to give things to the deserving instead of the shitbags. Makes me sick.

I don't see anything wrong with reenlisting to get stationed in a non-deployable unit. There is no such thing as "getting out of a deployment." If they needed you there you would go. He's just filling another slot somewhere else.

I had two friends get out to NG and with 2 yrs non deployable.... I think they forgot about the fact that the U S of A owns them.....8 months in they were going to Iraq.
