Looking to turn somewheretostay.com.au into a bookings agent site much like hotels.com or wotif.com. To service the aussie market for accommodation bookings.

i am looking for someone to either build it cheap/become my partner in this venture. I believe its a good domain name to start with and not only could service the australian market for accomdation but also tourists visiting australia.....

    Anyone interested...... have any advice?

Do you realize the amount of effort it takes to create a site like hotels.com?
If your intention is to compete or even start off in the bookings industry, it will not happen cheaply.
Not to burst your bubble, it's just this is asking allot.

Absolutely huge to create a site like that. I have gone through it with my webmaster here in Aust. Back end will be huge with hopefully 1000's of property's signing up, having there own logins etc.

I have already started the ball rolling with that company who looks after my other businesses but they dont have the time and i believe the passion as someone who would have a peice of the pie in the site.

I mostly belive in the domain name. Its to valueble just to leave for a backpackers hostel.

All comments/criticism welcome i need lots of ideas....

IMO the domain name isnt the greatest.
You are better off spending some cash and getting a smaller, easier to remember domain name and building off that.

2-3k for a better domain name would more than make up for 2-3k in business at the end of your venture.

Not to burst your bubble, but you will have a hard time finding someone willing to put in the amount of hours to that site without cash.

If you are serious... this is what I would do.
    Begin with a business plan.
    Target Market.
    Draft design and function docs.
    Estimated start up costs.
    Estimated ROI.

Once you've done your homework, then you can be more than prepared to approach a company like the one you currently work with and offer them a portion to partner with you.
The same goes with online resources, the more prepared you are at your end, the easier it is to sell to prospective developers.
If you want to be taken seriously, you will need more than a domain name and a dream.

    .

If you want your own custom programmed site it will be very expensive.

There are affiliate booking services available that already have the back end available to you though.

    Check out https://www.ian.com/ian/signup/signup.jsp

Or just buy a script that you can input hotels, attractions etc. manually.

    Here's a demo of one script I found. http://www.mycheapdesign.com/traveldemo/

you say you don't want to target hostels but that domain screams "cheap" places to stay.

maybe just a very simple/basic database driven listings site where you charge hotel chains an annual fee to be listed. Something like http://www.funeralhomes.com for hotels there.

No. Somewhere to stay is way too general.

You would need top result in your niche market. For example, "somewhere to stay in Australia."

    Do this...
Ask your friends to look on the web for hotels, accommodations and travel to Australia.
Then ask your friends who "googled" "somewhere to stay in australia" and I am willing to bet not a single person in 100 would use that term.

That being said and the others here also noted, you are better off finding a smaller more suitable domain even if it requires you to invest money into it because it would pay for itself provided the site is successful.

If you went ahead with your plan and your dream is to make 40k a year off of "somewheretotravelblahblahblah" you can bet that the 40k would be substantially higher with a 2-3k domain name.

true enough, I usually tell everyone that if they show me a business plan then i will look at their proposal and make my decision on commitment then.
Till this day, I have yet to see a completed business plan.
Yet, every business plan I presented got investments.

People need to do their part.
