    :hs:

Apple gave me a $60 discount after I called them asking why I was charged tax when there was no Apple store in Kansas :eek3: Not quite the same as the $100 I got charged, but it made it slightly more acceptable :hs:

I'm just glad I'm finally done searching for a laptop. Now to just get used to using a Mac...haven't used one since I was a kid :o

By the way, I picked up the 12in iBook G4 with the combo drive. It'll be for college, so hopefully it'll be sufficient. It should get here by Friday. It's shipping from Taiwan :eek3: Didn't know they made Macs over there :dunno:

Max out the RAM asap. You'll thank me later.

Yeah. Not much made on our shores these days. I was a bit disheartenedd to see my Compaq laptop was made in Shaghai, China. Hope it doesn't have SARS. :)

Cool on the 12" iBook! Did you get a student dicount?

I got my 12" ibook a week ago. I need to upgrade the ram, 256mb really is pretty pittiful. But all in all, it's pretty nice. I have it on a network-bridge through my pc, which worked out well. Personally, I'd like more usb connections, but oh well. This thing is so small and slick, and I get an average of 4.5 hours on the battery I think, unless I'm playing a bunch of videos on it or something.

OS X wasn't hard to learn and I already feel like I know it inside and out. I suppose experience with linux didn't hurt with that, though this is a hell of a lot more user friendly. It's like they've gone to great lengths to make it idiot-proof. Unlike linux, you are made administrator/root by default (like windows). But, unlike windows, you still need to re-enter the admin password to make system changes. So I guess it's kind of a hybrid between the two, a good measure of security while keeping it user friendly and functional. Once you get the hang of the basics and fool around with the settings some, it's pretty easy going.

What sucks for me is that it's supposed to arrive this Friday, and then on Sunday I leave for college :hs: Doesn't give me too much time to get used to a whole new computer - not to mention this is the first laptop I've owned :hs:

MS Office is kinda pricey, I may just stick with Open Office and Appleworks :hs:

Just to make sure, if I saved a document in Open Office in MS Word format then e-mailed it to myself and downloaded it from a PC, would I still be able to access the file? I don't see why I wouldn't be able to, but I want to make sure :hs:

Yes, it will be compatible. Though the formatting "may" be a little off in some parts. I can't say if the formatting would for sure be different or not, just that I've had that happen before (in which case, some quick touch-ups could be in order). However, compatibility shouldn't be a problem.

My iBook arrived today, I just finished updating everything

I still have to pick up a mouse and an wireless card, I'll take care of that pretty soon :)

So, is there anything I should do with my iBook? I'm going to calibrate the battery, but is there anything else that's recommended?

Why not use Safari? It has basically the same features as Firefox.

Yeah, I just decided to do that.

Is there any way to speed up the delete key? When I hold the delete key, it deletes text ridiculously slowly...

Are you running FF from the applications folder or from the dmg file? I seem to recall mine did the same thing at first, and that was why I think.

And btw, no safari isn't even in the same ballpark as FF. It's similar to Camino, but both pale in comparison to FF. ;)

I picked up a mouse that's compatable with Mac OS, but it's a two button mouse - will the second mouse button do anything? I assume the scroll button will work, correct?

Or should I swap it out for a single button mouse?

From what I understand, a 2 button mouns eill work just as a two button mouse in windows works. the 2nd buttion is like holding ctrl+click. not sure though, as I haven't tried it.

if it's USB and says it's mac compatible, the second button, scroll wheel and scroll wheel button should work without any additional drivers.

It should be right on the education page :dunno:

It's valid till the 25 of September.

Also, can I do both the printer and iPod deals? I noticed the terms say you need the original UPC from the iBook for both rebates, I may have to call and ask them about it.

go to your system preferences (click on the apple in the upper-left corner), then click on keyboard and mouse, keyboard tab... adjust repeat rates and delay until repeat :coold:
