I swore in this morning and will be shipping to bootcamp on Dec 27th, my Christmas present. I hope the weather down in FT Benning isn't to different than what I'm used to here in San Diego. :noes:

The lack of detail in this thread is to save myself from the ridicule for being an officer canidate. And San Diego isn't humid at all, hopefully it won't be too bad in the winter/spring over there. I'm still wearing shorts and its sunny in San Diego...

Good luck man, it's not too difficult, just long and draining. I just got back from Benning today so if there's anything you want to know, just ask.

    Why would there be ridicule?

And as someone mentioned, Benning is going to be MUCH colder than San Diego. I lived in SD for a while, and I have a sister that lives at Ft. Benning.

    Congratulations on joining up! :bigok:

Medical Service, but I'll be happy with any of my top 6 choices.

I know its going to be cold as eff, but that's better than heat+humidity I think.

I got ridiculed when I mentioned my desire to go officer before.

I don't recall anyone ever ridiculing you in the numerous threads you started or the questions you asked here in the barracks. I seem to recall a lot of people trying to answer your various questions and help you out. Ranger even stickied one of your thread so it would get some more info for you.

    You belong in the forum.
Outside the forum, some would say after basic.

    Agreed.

The bitches who went to medical claiming to be suicidal and went home after 2 weeks sworn in too, but they don't belong.

First off congrats on your enlistment. Just to add a few things for you. I'm from California, and did my entire enlistment (with the exception of my OSUT) at Benning on Kelley Hill. Like others mentioned it will be much colder in Georgia. You'll get to see a bit of rain as well. But when things heat up around the end of Feb or early March it will be humid as all holy hell. It's nothing like California either. We don't experience the humid temps that Southern Georgia does. I'm talking you'll be sweating balls as you walk out the barracks for pt. It's a nice place in all. I'm not sure about how it is for basic because I went through basic at Knox. But Benning will definately be something extremely different than we left coasters are used to. Just hydrate, and you'll be good.

I did get a ton of help, I didn't take the slight ribbing personally. And my comment about avoiding ridicule was made tongue-in-cheek. I appreciate all the help I got from this forum, and now I'm proud to be part of the greatest military the world has ever seen.

Done, now I'm a 2LT. Benning was colder than I imagined (thank the drill sergeants for denying us use of our "snivel" gear) and hotter than africa in the summer, glad to be done and away from there. I head to Ordnance school in Maryland next and then my first duty station is my top choice Germany, yay.

PS- If you recall I said I would be happy with any of my top 6 choices... Ordnance was number 7...

I'm guessing you're headed to Aberdeen? Big cities aren't too far away (Bmore, Philly, DC) so it's not all that bad there.

O man i hate the cold. At least with the heat you can get away from it, but the cold is everywhere.
