I just spent $330 on wolf ammo and I'm happy about it :hs:

This is ridiculous. It was either that or give Gander $500 for some Federal :ugh:

    this really is getting bad

I stopped by 3 different Wally's yesterday on my way back home and ALL of them had almost empty ammo cases. I mean not the normal 9mm/.223/.308 shit being out, but EVERYTHING being gone.

Not sure if this is tin hat territory or not, but my CCW instructor (CPD's main firearms instructor) seems to think that the ammo companys are purposely cutting production due to pressure from the .gov

He claims the ammo industry is capable of putting out about 1.5billion rounds/year, and that the military buys up about 1 billion of that.

    Who knows.

A fascinating theory, but it's easily verified.

Ask folks in the business whether supply has slowed in the face of rising demand. I expect their story will differ from the tinfoil-hat theories of your instructor.

Look at SEC filings. The major ammunition manufacturers all report operating at >100% capacity in an attempt to meet to record demand. They will not invest significant capital in new production capacity because they feel the current spike in demand is unsustainable and are legitimately concerned about the effects of any future regulation. In the meantime, they're doing everything short of taking out loans and floating bonds to get their production numbers up.

There was an excellent business-case analysis of the situation posted here a month or so back that was very insightful. It certainly made a lot more sense that whispered conspiracy theories.

The 1.5 billion rounds/year figure is fishy. That's about 5 rounds per person in the country per year.

    This.

The companies are doing everything they can to up production, because they are losing money by not keeping up with demand, but since they know this is a bubble (lets face it people, it is temporary) they aren't willing to build new mfg facilities (which wouldn't help the short term shortage anyways)

I refused to buy Wolf. I'd rather go hand to hand than to show how well I can clear a jam.

I met someone yesterday who drives 2/3 of the Illinois stretch of I80 and stops at every Walmart and buys every single box of ammo to resell on GB. Oh, he does this EVERY DAY. :ugh:

I found 3k of small pistol and 3k large pistol for $36/1k locally. Been milking those as they've since raised prices to $43/1k. I'm hoping the hysteria dies down before I finish off 6,000rds of pistol ammo. :hs:
