I fail at video games. Just bought Bioshock 2 and I always remembered I loved this game, but I never died. Got close, but always lived when I was on medium. I tried this one on hard and OMFG RAPE

I'm the same way now. I just like to put games on easy/medium and enjoy the gameplay/story.

Play on normal for the first playthrough. Use hard/hardcore/whatever for following playthroughs.

I like this method because the first playthrough will be fairly easy and you can learn the game and enjoy the story, whereas the second playthrough will be both harder and easier while you focus on doing the things you didn't do before and have challenge added by harder enemies.

of course this is moot if you only do one playthrough :o

Nothing like grinding your way through games and finishing them begrudgingly just so you can finish it. Stubbornness always wins out.

I can't seem to play a game more than once. Even if it is really good. Just like it's hard for me to watch a movie I already watched. I need surprises.

Great games I gotta do twice. First one is about immersion and enjoying the story, and the second one is more about optimizing my character and really BEATING the game while still trying to find more to the story that I missed.

For me the perfect settings seems to be the 2nd hardest difficulty. Hard enough to keep me motivated and yet playable enough to actually finish without treading too much of the same level. When I say I can't play a game more than once I am serious. I think the only game in the past 3 years I played twice was cod4. I can't even bring myself to play uncharted 2 again and it was definitely a fun one.

Yeah, I pretty much think this way but some games are laughably easy or just plain not hard enough to ever pose a challenge at all. They might still be fun to play but you just say to yourself "I wish the enemies had more health, so I could beat them down for longer" or something.

Same way here, I usually do it back to back. When I played Risen I played through it the first time completely lost all the time and it was great, every minute of it. Second and third time I just played through with what I had learned, choosing different choices, and also put it on hard mode because I finally figured out the combat system, and just tried to make my guy as awesome as he could be. Actually, I never beat it, the last boss is a fucking douchebag fucker and I just can't seem to do shit to him.

Trouble is, you wear a game out fast when you do that. I tried to play Divinity 2 a second time, but as awesome as it was the first time around, going through all that shit again just didn't seem like much fun.

I must have played fallout 3 ...who knows how many times, kept getting new add ons and starting over. I only play games at night, but man, I sure do lose a lot of sleep because of that... like today... i'll probably get a few hours of sleep in before I have to get to work.

I only play 3-4 games a year so I usually replay them and the second playthrough is fun because of a greater challenge and my completionist tendencies

i always play through on normal first, just to get a gist of the game, then i switch to veteran/hard/legendary for a true challenge.

i tried to play the original Bioshock on hardest and it's unfair

you die from one shock and you pop potions like candy corn

so a normal difficultly is less frustrating

    I pace myself.

I used to play NCAA and Madden on JV. Then, after a few 101-0 games, I moved to Varsity. Then, after a few 101-3 games, I moved to all-american. I'm still there but there have been a lot of blowouts... but a few really bad games on my part... 5 ints, 3 tds, etc.

I find that with some games putting it on easy ruins it. Nothing worse than a big boss fight you win way too easily. :dunno:

I was just playing MGS3 with a friend who never played before. We put it on easy just so I could fly through it. It comes with an "EZ Gun" that gives you infinite ammo, infinite supressor, a lazer sight, 80% camo no matter what, and an instant KO when you shoot a guy. :ugh:
