i want it to make a thumbnail on upload. named tn_filename.jpg, in a folder called thumb or something in the upload folder. i change upload folders every month, right now its 200709. so the thumbnail will be 200709/thumb/tn_filename.jpg.

i want the thumbnails to be no bigger than 150px in height or width. Obviously if someone uploads a pic, a smiley say, thats only 50x50, i want the thumbnail to be the same size. And i want that size to be determined by a variable so i can easily change it later if i want/need to.

and i allow pdf uploads so i can make a pdf thumb file, that can just be copied from the main graphics folder to the proper folder and renamed as such if a pdf is uploaded. and if gif files can only be the first frame im cool with that.

ill take care of the previously uploaded files.

    interested?

I have code that does that in PHP now .. I use it to create dynamic thumbs for pictures in a custom gallery script, I've gotten away from static thumbnails. If you're sitting on a shared unix server and it has the imagemagik module or something like that I could do this in perl but I've never tried. I can post my code if that'll help ya ...

dynamically created a thumbnail, or just resizes the image for display. the problem is some of these images are very big -3mb limit- so i want thumbs but i want them under 20 kb.

the reason i wanted the upload script originally rewritten to php is because of things like this. its becoming much easier to find little scripts in php than cgi and as such the site is turning into a clusterfuck of both.
