I have some rock chips in my hood, and would like to use a black "pen type" touch-up thingy. The car is VW uni black.

    Those pens suck

See if there is an aero colours near you. Airbrushed repair, color matched paint much better results

If you want to use touch-up paint, get it from the dealer. Dab in a bit extra, wait a day or two then polish it level with the rest of the paint.

the car is a daily driver, and until I get it totally resprayed and do the clear bra, I'm not concerned with it looking perfect. I just don't want to see the yellow primer.

    Thanks for the tips.

OK - but FYI - to do a hood touch-up, I typically chrge $25-40, and I promise it would look better than using the pen.

It won't look good for long, since I actually drive the car on the highway.

:werd: I use dealer touch up paint and an 0000 artist brush for touch up work.
