I'm trying to decide on a new rifle, and it's come down to two choices and I can't quite make up my mind. The choices are either a Springfield Armory M1A or some type of FAL. I'm not looking for any kind of add-on's, low power scope at the most.

Any insight as to which rifle is greatly appreciated.

can probably make the M1A more of a match grade rifle if you're interested in that.

i'd take the FAL if its made by a quality manufacturer, though. not a cetme clone or something like that.

if you can get an FAL made on an imbel of DSA receiver, i'd take that over a standard grade springfield M1A.

if you can get a real FN, jesus get that.

    DS Arms FAL > * for a .308 MBR.

If you really want a M14/M1A check out Fulton Armory.

oh, and don't get a receiver that was made on enterprise tooling if you're wanting to build an FAL.

    :werd:

    DSA FAL > Springfield M1A
    but
    Fulton > DSA FAL

I was checking out the DS Arms fal's and they were starting to pull me more toward an fal, plus I found an FFL that has a pretty good transfer policy.

How much would a FAL be on the budget end?

Their basic carbine is like $1080. You could pick up a parts kit and reciever for a few hundred less then that, not sure how hard it is to assemble FAL kits though, I heard they're easier then AK's so cannt be to hard :dunno:

How likely is it to find a good deal on a DSA FAL at a gun show? And if not that, what other brand would be worth the money?

They seem to hold there value pretty good, I dont think you'de find one significantly cheaper at a show. Can try browsing some of the for sale forums on some of the gun boards and try to find a good deal.

Very very slim chance. DSA is the only company I know of that is building new FALs that comply with all the ATF regulations. There are a handful of companies that are selling what are essentially pre-assmebled kit guns.

Thanks. There's a gun show in town this weekend, wondering if it was worth looking at or not.

Right now mainly for recreational use, competition later on. Hunting maybe? Although I'd rather use my bolt action for that.
