I'm 5'9", 275lbs and I can't take it anymore. It's gotten to the point where I have to do something about it and it has to be now. I know I need to cut out certain foods which I think I can do but my main need is exercise. For the past 4 years (after my ex-girlfriend went into the Navy :wtc: ) I've really let myself go and haven't exercised at all. I know I need cardio to burn the fat but is there anything else I can/need to do?

Today or tomorrow I plan on joining the local gym which is 2 minutes from my house and just start running laps everyday. Is that a good start? :dunno: I don't have a goal to be big and muscular. I just want to lose the fat first.

Any advice would be appreciated. :bigthumb:

moderate your calorie intake, it starts right there. know what you eat and the cal/fat/carb/protein and take what you eat now and lower it drasticly

    then do lots of cardio

Its definately doable, I am down over 50lbs myself. The thing is its a lifestyle change not a diet. Its forever not just for this year. Do you really want this? Its not fun. Its not a walk in the park.. its more like a run.. that kinda run you do when you are being chased by rabid dogs. But after a while it becomes second nature and you look for ways to push youself. If you want it bad enough you can have anything you set your mind to. Now go read that sticky!

Also it would help if you detailed what you eat on an average day.

I thought the fat burning process was better at a level just below cardio?

I always suggest the Cabbage Stew diet, where you eat mostly nothing but cabbage stew for 7 days, and you take in almost 0 calories. I am not a pro on nutrition, and more of a noob, but people never agree or disagree with me when I suggest the cabbage stew diet for people who only want to lose fat.

    Is it good or bad?

Yeah I can't believe you would recommend something where you take in "almost 0" calories for a whole week..

How can you not know that's unhealthy?

You sound like a dumb girl on the "jellybean diet" or some stupid shit like that.

You still take in some calories, but it is just something for people who want to lose quick fat, and I got it from a doctor who passes them out regularly. It says that after doing this for too long, you can suffer from malnutrition. I have seen it work on 2 other people.

Bad it may be, but no need to stoop down to a little kid's level and start insulting and calling names when I freely admitted I was not sure if it was great or not.

at that low a calorie level, your body will burn just as much, if not more, muscle than fat and it'll mess up your metabolism which will screw the person in the long run.

It may work for someone who wants to lose nothing but *weight* but on that diet you're going to be losing as much muscle as fat, sorry.

Ah I messed up in my typing when I said "nothing but fat".

Anyway, I understand that you lose muscle and fat, but when doctors prescribe it to someone who is 5'6 and 350 pounds, losing a little muscle and a lot of fat is good when you are that unhealthy.

I tried the cabbage soup diet once, and dropped about 10 lbs in a week. Also, I had TONS of energy, strangely enough. But once I started eating normally again, it all came back on.

It's a quick fix, and it gives you loose stools :hs:

psmf if you need to fast that badly. Protects lbm and you're still under 1000 calories a day.

I would advice you to get a better doctor if he was telling people to do that. Seriously.

That's what I'm doing. Yesterday this is what I ate:

Breakfast - can of mixed fruit in extra light syrup

Brunch - few thin slices of ham and turkey

Lunch - 2 chicken breasts cooked on George Forman grill

Dinner - Salad with a little cheese and ranch dressing, steak and water

Is that a decent diet? :dunno:

Sounds like you have too much fat in your diet.
If you can try eating your salad without cheese and ranch, unless you're using a low fat ranch and low fat cheese.

You need to eat more for breakfast (ex. oatmeal) and lunch. dinner should be your lightest meal. For brunch you should be eating some type of fruit.
You also need at least 4 to 5 servings of veggies.

In between lunch and dinner you need to add in another fruit.

Drink at least 64oz of water a day.

    Do you workout at all?
