I think I finally blew one of my JL XR series 6.5" component woofers. They are several years old, so it's about time for me to get something new, but I haven't been keeping up with car speakers too much lately, so I don't know what is good, and what I should avoid. I think I want to go with something that has a soft dome tweeter, but would consider something with hard dome tweeters as long as they aren't too bright or harsh. I still have JL XR coaxials in the rear deck, which I will keep in there for now as rear fill, unless I put something else in there and it ends up sounding bad with the two different types of speakers. So what brands should I look at? There aren't too many stereo shops around here that carry decent brands, and I doubt that there is anything I would want to put in my car that is carried at Best Buy or Circuit City.

I've always been biased to Diamond Audio. Had them in my last vehicle and they sounded awesome. Real crisp clear sound also had two Diamond 12" subs that were kick ass also.

I've read that Hertz are awesome. If I have any doubts of the boston pro60's I'm installing (listened to them at the store, they sounded great, but people still insist they lack midbass and a little too harsh.. we will see), then I will most likely get the hsk 165's.

I got the Friday and need to get them installed asap. I just popped the plastic thing that the tweeter is installed in and found that when the installers at Tweeter put it in they used some type of adhesive that is melted in there since they had to use a different tweeter cup than the ones that came with the speakers since one was missing due to my old car being in an accident. Now I guess I'll have to get brand new pieces for both doors, since I don't think those tweeters will come out now... this pisses me off, but I guess it had to be done to get them to stay.

got them installed a couple of days ago, and so far I like them. They are way more laid back than the JL XRs, much less bright and harsh. Gonna take some getting used to, but hopefully after they break in a bit more I'll like them even better.

I dont see whats wrong with focals, Hertz, Diamond, and the PG RSD's and PRS720's for the more budget oriented folk

How do you like the HSK 165's now that you've had them in there for a few weeks?

I like them quite a bit, but I really want to get an Alpine 9887 and run the imprint kit so I can have it eq'd properly.

Hmmm, I think i want to replace the 6x9's and tweeter in my truck with some components. I see alot of good comments on the Hertz, ID (forget the model#) and Morel tempo 6's.
Just can't make up my mind.

Edit. I have an Alpine 7894 (older model) and it's awesome. My last 3 or 4 players have all been alpine. If/when I upgrade down the road I really want a hard drive based player or at least one that has a slot for an SD card.

probably the ID ctx65cs components... had I not got the hertz, that's what I would have gotten. But I got a real good price on the hertz, so that's what I went with.

check DIYMA classifieds for ID OEM mids. Great price and they are basically the same thing as the ID CX or CTX (I think). They are what I have. Will be installed the weekend after Thanksgiving I think. Maybe before.
