Hey guys, I have been without a rifle for about 3 years and the bug is starting to come back. I have had 2 ARs (stainless barrel target type and m4 type) and a remington LTR. The only problem is that the only places I can really shoot, offer ranges between 50 to 200 yards...not really hard with those rifles and a good scope. I was wondering if you guys know of any rifles, bolt or semi, that offer decent iron sights that werent slapped on the barrel as an afterthought. I have been playing with the idea of an M1A, but cant seem to find much else to my liking(im not interested in anything AR). Also, is there such a thing as installing aftermarket iron sights on a rifle that was originally intended to have a scope?

sorry for the wall of text and thanks in advance.

Good irons from the factory are all but forgotten these days.

Honestly, I'd look to score an older match conditioned 22. There's been several surplus examples popping up onto the market. Be a lot more fun at that range, and you could probably score a cool rifle for relatively cheap.

went to the store just to look around and handled these...I think for ease of handling and price I kind of liked the remington. The M1A did have much nicer aperture iron sights but it was really heavy, more than twice the price(just for the standard model), and from what I have read, the accuracy isnt something to write home about. I know these arent very similar rifles but those were really my only iron sight options. They had a savage that looked like a direct competitor to the remington, however, the fit and finish just wasnt as nice as the remington(the trigger on the savage was a little better though).
