I need a program that can make a scale model of a floor plan...

    Hey guys,

I recently started volunteering at this local library. One of the small projects the branch manager gave me was to make a to scale 2D model of the libraries main area (where the book stacks, computers, study desks, etc are located).

What I would be doing is measuring everything in the entire library and she wants it to be put into a computer program so she can test out (on the program) how she can arrange the library space in a more efficient manner. If anyone could list some programs that could possibly get this accomplished, please let me know. I go to a pretty huge university, so I'm sure they would have at least one of the programs. Basically where I enter in the measurements, and it makes sort of a virtual blue print that we can play around with. Thanks everyone.

Some of our engineers have started to use Sketchup as an alternative to their expensive CAD software - crazy.

if it needs to be free, sketchup. If you can pay but it has to be reasonable, then visio.

Omnigraffle, if you're using a Mac.

People in many CAD using industries seem to be using sketchup for quick things these days.

So sketchup can do kind of what I need? You can enter measurements etc and it makes scaled down models?

yes, it makes things to scale. I designed my workbench in sketchup and I was pleased with the result.
