Currently I'm a 3C0X2... or a computer programmer. In October my slot at my current unit is projected to disappear, and my controlled tour ends in December. I'm trying to get ahead of the game so I can have a say in what happens to me.

It seems that my options are to volunteer for a short tour in Korea, cross train, or volunteer for a special duty.

I'm somewhat attracted to the idea of spending a year in Korea. If cross training falls through, which it might because my career field isn't listed on the "out" list right now, I may try to get my short tour out of the way.

What are some of the little known options for special duty assignments? The ones I can think of...

    Military Equal Opportunity
    BMT Instructor
    NCO PME Instructor
    Air Force Honor Guard
    Technical training school instructor
    Technical training school "blue rope"
    Recruiter

    Anything I'm not thinking of?

There is a remote possiblity that I could get my name tossed around over in Belgium for a SSgt. slot that a buddy of mine is leaving because he put on Tech this year. That would be my preferred option.

If I were you I'd take the Korea slot... Korea is a lot of fun from what I've heard from even 2ID guys and I was actually gonna call my branch manager to try to get sent there the day I got my orders for Alaska. :wiggle:

I personally wouldn't go Korea cuz I don't like their food. When I was in, one of my goals was to become an MTI at Lackland and I was WELL onto my way to getting there.

I considered it.... and then I found out that I have absolutely no chance of getting into flight school because I have poor depth perception. :(

    Good luck with that!

They've been talking about putting a nail in this career field for the last eight years now. Chief Murray even came out and said that they were trying to thin out the non-deployable AFSC's, and specifically mentioned 3C0X2's.

But you know how the Air Force is... things look like they're going in one direction, then a general retires, and all of a sudden everything is drastically different.

Hell, my SRB was a 6 four years ago, and two years ago they were forcing people out of the career field. Now there's no SRB but I can't cross train.
