I bought an HJC helmet when i bought my bike, because thats all i had money left for.

The thing fogs like crazy tho, and it rained today while i was riding, and it was fogging, water was staying on the mask ( i guess i could rainex it) and a little bit of water leaked.

So i think i want nicer helmet now

    recomendations?

I wouldn't mind spending a lot if i knew it was going to be a good helmet, but I'll probably have to get one in the spring if its going to be expensive, not like there much more riding time where i live anyway

I used to have a Shoei RF-700 and just recently got a Shoei RF-900. I like it a lot. It whistles a little bit when I open all the vents, but otherwise, it's not too noisy, it's relatively light and comfortable, and it doesn't fog up too much when I leave a small crack open in the visor. I think you can get a mouthguard or whatever they're called, but I also heard that they don't work very well. Lots of people have Arais and swear by them as well. There is also a new helmet called OGK which supposed makes very good helmets as well, but I don't know anyone that has one. They're hard to get I guess. Hope that helps. :wavey: Have fun and ride safe!

    No problem!

Oh yah, and try on different kinds and make sure they fit. My head doesn't fit into an Arai as comfortably as a Shoei, and I think OGK helmets fit like Arai. I guess they're made to fit different shaped heads. :) Just go out and see which ones fit your particular head. Have fun!

Why don't you get a fog city shield insert thingy? They work great. No fog or condensation on your visor.

Sorta correct. The Arais have two different styles of fit; the Quantum and the Astral. One is made for a more round head while the other is for a more oval head.

After I bought my new bike back in March I decided it was time to retire my old AGV. Didn't really want to spend massive amounts of money but, as it turned out, the most expensive helmet fit my head the best. So I ended up with an Arai RX7RR4. I haven't regretted the purchase one bit...

Most new (expensive) helmets come with anti-fog built into their shields.

Go with what I said in the above post if you are on a budget. A fog city insert will be about 20 bucks. If you shield is scratched, replace that while you are at it.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'm not too familiar with Arais. :hs:

The issue he's having isn't comfort, it's that the visor fogs up. Buying a $500 Arai or Shoei isn't going to solve this problem, and he'll have wasted $500 when he had a perfectly good helmet already.

Keep the HJC, and buy a fog treatment product instead.

More expensive helmets are not always better helmets.

true....but my arai doens't fog up....it is properly vented and has a treated visor already....it did cost a nice chunk of change...but hey...I have the full works on comfort and performance all in one stop....I have no need for anything at all related to my helmet....well except maybe a tinted visor for the really sunny days...but no problems otherwise...not even in extreme heat or cold...never fogs...never does nothing...its like its not there i love it.

by far the best helmet I've ever had was a Shark RSR. I live in Vancouver where temps and humitity varies and where fogging is an issue. I've never fogged that helmet. IMO, it has the best anti-fog ventilation I've ever tried. Fair superior over the Arai's and Shoei's that I've owned. The new Shark that they are releasing has a chemically treat liner which will not allow the liner to exceed a specified temp.

I've also crash tested 3 of them this season. One crash was an extremely violent highside @ about 160kph at the track. The styrofoam did its job and there was no splitting of the outer shell. best helmet I've ever owned IMO.

My shoei x-11 never fogs unless the mouth vent is closed. All I have to do is open it and it defogs in like a second.

I've never tried an arai helmet. I put on the x-11 and it fir perfectly, so I got it.
