Im buying a new card and that is pretty much my only criteria for selecting one. Money dosnt really matter that much as im getting it from hongkong.
    Thanks in advance

If you need a list to select from go here:

and choose vga from the scroll down menu.

Edit: My mobo only supports AGP. I have 768mb pc2700 ram. Currently using gforce 4 mx440 128mb ddr.

    Eagle Geforce FX6800 Ultra 256MB DDR/DVI HK$ 3,880.00
    Focus Geforce 6600 AGP8X 128MB DDR HK$ 995.00
    FORSA Geforce 6800GT AGP8X 256MB DDR3 HK$ 3,230.00
    Galaxy影馳 GF 6800Ultra AGP8X 256MB DDR3 # HK$ 4,150.00
    HIS Radeon X800XT AGP8X 256MB IceQ II VIVO # HK$ 3,720.00

basically any 6600 gt, 6800 gt, 6800 ultra, x800 pro or xt. You can do research on each manufacturer for specific specs on cooling and other stuff. I use an X800 PRO with 1.5 gb ram, athlon 64+ 3200 clocked at 2.4 ghz and HL2 runs great. I got the vid card used but if I had to buy new, I would've gone with a 6600 GT.

If money is no object go with the 6800GT or Ultra, if money is somewhat tight then the 6600GT.

Get the 6600GT regardless, the Ultra is an energy hog and the performance gains are trivial.

Personally I would ditch both and get an X800 Pro.

For HL:2, for the best quality (and money is no object) get the ATi X850 XT PE, otherwise, probably a 6600GT or X800

  6. I've got a Radeon 9700 Pro and HL2 works flawlessly.

Yeah, same here. It runs silky smooth on a 9700 Pro.

Still, shelling out the extra $40 for a 6600GT is the better deal...Or, you could always get one refurb off Newegg for $130 like I did :).

The 9700 Pro isn't as dated as it seems, by the way. The 9800 Pro is at most 3-6 fps faster.

It's just clever marketing. Of course, the 9800 Pro chipset supports up to 256MB of RAM.

Go for a 6800 Ultra or a x800 XT so you can run at full settings and chuck in some AA and AF. If you dont want those features pumped up just get a 6800GT or X800 pro, both lower cards overlcock well anyway, and the x800 pro can be flashed to an x800 XT with 16 pipes.

The 6800 Ultra is a ripoff. $100+ extra dollars for a 3fps increase, as well as a power/heat whore inside your machine.

I recommend the X800 Pro because of it's superior drivers, low heat dissipation, quieter operation, and minimal power consumption.
