    Hey everyone,

    I need a new printer...

It will mainly be used for printing invoices, so color is not terribly important (but it's a plus), but I do need quality black and white prints...and having them print quickly is important. Pricing in the area of $200-$250...

    Thanks!

You can get good brand new HP LaserJets for $160 Canadian here. Anything laser will be high quality and fairly quick, and HP has a very good reputation for reliability and quality.

I'm gonna suggest any HP4000 series. Durable & quick. You can pick one up from ebay for pretty cheap also. I love my hp4050n

Well I bought the Brother... couldn't pass up the deal. Free shipping ($20) too. It won the C|Net Editor's Choice Award...they say it's the best Laser printer you can buy under $300.

    I'll see if they're right.

Yea, I'd say the Brother is probably a fine choice as well.

That model is fixing to get discontinued by Epson, the rep told me so today. If I were you I would look into either the Photo Stylus 875, or the new Stylus C84. The C84 can do borderless prints on 4x6, 8x10 and 8.5x11 papers. :eek3:

Hey, let me know how long the toner cart lasts on the Brother 1440. $40 ain't cheap, but if it lasts awhile, it might be worth it to have a dedicated document printer to save inkjet for photos.

They're supposed to last quite a while...like Zourn said about 3,000 pages. But I'll post what my experience is...

That's why I'm buying it. Sick of buying new ink when I'm just printing invoices...

Well, I got the Brother, so I've had it for a little over 2 months. It works great and prints great. Only complaint is it sometimes prints a blank page with some random text in the upper left hand corner....weird.

That could be a software issue. My printer is an HP, and it takes PCL input (as opposed to Postscript like most printers take). If a program tries to send it Postscript and it doesn't use the driver or something then it just prints the raw postscript as text, looking like random text. Weird problem, since it only happens with some programs.

I don't know if this is the same problem you're having, but it could be :dunno:

Hmm, yeah I was assuming it was a software/driver issue. It's just a couple carachters...but it's enough to ruin the page for anything else to print on :(
