Since I moved and am no longer training at a Gracie Barra school my GB Gi's are useless and I'm in the market for a new gi. What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

I probably could, I just assumed being it wasn't GB affiliated they wouldn't want their gi's being worn.

yeah I'd find out from your new instructor if it's an issue or not. usually stuff like that's not a big deal.

    Rip the GB patches off.

    gis I have/have used:
Sirius: kinda thick, but really soft and durable.
War gi: great collar, lots of ridiculous colors, will NEVER rip, I'm certain.
Vulkan summer weave: pricey, but the toughest thin gi you'll find.
HCK: Cheap, but kinda fits funny.
Atama: GREAT gi, but who wants to spend 200 bucks on a gi?
Ground Control: 90 bucks, amazing gi. Dunno if they have a website, pm me if you want contact info.

If you have two gis, just freaking wear them. You paid, what, 200+ for the two? If nothing else get just silly patches to cover them up with.

    HCK is cheap and durable.

But why buy when you already have 2?

Speaking of fitting weird, me and another guy were talking about this yesterday.

Our HCK's had a lot of slack and although they fit our body, there was still a lot of slack between the the arm area. It's more like a Judo gi but at least it'll always pass any tournament requirements.

:werd: I have grown to dislike them... but they're great for novices as far as bang/buck goes.

I'll probably just rip off the patches, although I never really did like the way they fit.

I'm just excited to start training again. Here is the school http://mabjj.com/ I have read nothing but good things about the school, anyone else hear anything about Marcello?

Awesome, only thing I have read about his school is that it's pricey, but it's the only place close to me. Everything else is 45 minutes-hour away :(

I'd like to say just ask the new school first if its ok to keep the gi as is.

My instructors and coaches themselves wear all sorts of shirts from different teams when we train, from ATT, Miletich, The Pit, etc. I wear shirts from my old schools with no problems either. I'm proud to rep my roots.

I'd also kill to be able to legitly wear a GB gi, or any gracie gi for that matter :o

I dont understand what the deal is with BJJ guys and patches/school logos. You never know when you might need to move for what ever reason job/ fam etc. I just get judo gis because they dont have any patched on them (well most of them). Mizuno is pretty good, I had one for years and it is by far the best gi I have ever owned. Addidas has some good gis and thats what Im using now. Super durable. I have never heard of some one ripping or tearing a mizuno gi.

Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (mogul: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11) Sprint:pPC6800)

wear the gb gis and ask if theres any issue with it. only a few schools are ghey about outsider gear, and that's usually because they're trying to sell you there own shit.
I.e. gracie barra, allan goes, etc...

but I would still suggest getting a new 3rd gi.
I love atama, very soft fits well and durable.
didn't like vulkan at all, gives me "rug" burns sometimes.
    koral is good but expensive.
hck is cheap and durable but also isn't the softest gi around, it also occaisionally burns my elbows. and yes hck does run kinda big but you can shrink it a bit with hot wash and hot dry. oh yeah, beware about the shrinking tendencies of atama as well, they run small and do shrink in the dryer.

good luck and congrats on the move to the pac nw!
