Anyone know anyone who has gone Green to Gold before? How long for orders and such. I can get a 30 day prior out til school starts which would be July 24. As of now all I know is that I made it (through the Cadet Application Scholarship site) and the HRC homepage has been down for quite some time.

Start a full court press looking for orders now. The Officers that have advance civil schooling options (Masters Degree on Active Duty) have already PCS'd. If you're not packing up your things and getting ready to move out now, you're behind the power curve.

Protip: Get your orders by friday if possible.

Well to be honest I put my packet together over about 9 months starting June 08 when I applied for the school until I submitted the entire G2G packet in the Middle of March 09 (It's due by April 1 for the Fall Semester.)

I had a couple things going for me namely the purple heart, 2 deployments (22 months in Iraq) and some outstanding letters of Rec from my CO and PL. However, I had a DUI in Feb 07 so I had to submit a waiver for that. The waiver is not part of your application and it gets reviewed separately but the paperwork for that was not fun at all. Even with my waiver aside, dealing with DoDMERB (for your physical), scheduling appmts (like DA photo...), and all the other little things add up so it's best to start now.

Once submitted your application is reviewed by a selection board in the middle of May. After that your 'told' that it will be the end of June before you find out. This year with over 600 applicants they were behind and it took all the way until July 8th until they released the results.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask...

The barracks has to have the largest collection of overachieving enlisted on the net.

Judge if you want to but don't act like you came back your first deployment 20 years old with a purple heart and felt invincible... I was a dumbass, most of my NCO's were dumbasses (referring to drug use/d&d/other bullshit) and it was just a sign of the times man. We lost 9 people (in our company) that tour and a lot of us didn't care really once we got back to garrison. Looking back I know what a fucking idiot I was and trust me I was served both UCMJ and State-side punishments. Maybe your post was just an off-handed remark but I can't really tell you how serious this impacted me as a person and made me grow up in a lot more ways then just being a good deployed soldier. I would say it is harder job in garrison then it is oversea's simply because you have all the vice's trying to fuck you up as a private. If you think I will ever be lenient on those who get DUI's when I'm an Officer they have another thing coming. I was nailed to the wall, stripped of my waivered E4 and basically have been held back ever since. I am an E4 today with a 300+ PT score and I apply myself in all ways, no short-timer syndrome or shamming comes from me. I love the Army in a sick way and it loves me back just the same. Becoming an Officer means more to me then anyone can imagine and I cannot wait until I graduate and commission.
