spending my Christmas, after opening the presents, and eating breakfast with the family, setting up a new server for my final project for my degree. :wiggle:

    Redhat 7.3 (Valhalla)
    Apache 2.0.55
    PHP 5.1.1
    --imap 2004g
    MySQL 5.0.1.7
    GD 2.0.3.3
    --fontconfig 2.3.9.3
    --freetype 2.1.1.0
    --jpegsrc v6b
    --libpng 1.2.8
    --zlib 1.2.3

Feel's great having a fresh new box all up and running in a day. Celeron 300a (450) with 256 ram and 6.4gb HDD.

Let's see your 3ghz out preform this thing in a website testing :fawk:

I still have a bit to go. Need to setup SAMBA for the share, subsystem, and maybe a few tools to check emails and send it to my cell phone via text message.

    it's all done now.

from a basic rh 7.3 install, everything is up and running. box is secured, tripwire is up and running. only ports open are my webserver and ssh, and the webserver is internal only, can't access it from outside my subnet.

    :wiggle: im happy for now.

ISP won't allow me to have public website + the server runing all these queries bogs down REALLY quickly. Stupid celerons. :greddy:

I'll have a public site up for testing later with my analysis/design & code on SF.

my isp won't either, shhh don't tell them. I really need to switch my windows box to linux, but the ftp server was a nightmare last time i tried. Why do they have to make things so difficult!

FTP is a huge bitch to setup. Just use SFTP/SCP instead, it's way easier.

That is just one part. I have to use knowledge from 4 300+ level classes. Linux Security Auditing was one of them. Other classes are Software Engineering (Following the full SDLC), Object Orientated Analysis and Design (Patterns like GOF & GRASP), Project Managment (Have to do a whole section on this, like timelines, resources, critical paths, etc), Advance Web Development.

I now have to actualy create my CMS. I have most of the analysis & design done. I have to do all the documentation, user guides, etc. Then present this project to the faculty board for grading. Full 30 min presentation with a 30 min Q&A period. They grind your design/implementation like no tomorrow.

They say it can be done in 100 hours, but I figure I wan't a good grade, and I'll be near the 250 hour mark, for something I would be proud to put my name on.

What flavor degree is this for? And which school? I'd be all about this project.

Bachelors of Computer Information Systems at UCFV in BC, Canada.

Smaller U/C, only 7000 students, and maybe 300 of them are CIS. We have a HUGE business/criminology/avation program. Those 3 make up 1/2 the school.

    Nice!

Sounds like a fun project. I'd be curious to see how involved the CMS has to be. The part that sucks (in my opinion) is you're re-inventing the wheel - there's a TON of CMSs out there. Definitely a great exercise though.

I think the senior project at U. Akron is we have to write an OS. I'm not sure if that's still the case though. I'd rather write a CMS...

The project can be anything you want, as long as it is approved by your faculty advisor.

Idealy my idea came when i was looking for a blog with WAP/WML support, for when I travel, I can take pictures, send them off, and have them uploaded to my site for people to see. Also I'd be able to post to a blog, and read replies.

It then grew to "hell, let's just make it a CMS." What I'll probably end up only being able to do is getting the core blog completed, WAP/WML support, with a wicked plugin system. From there, I'll grow it as needed.

I'm only supposed to put in 100 hours, since they don't want to burden us down, since some of us work FT & school FT.
