The speakers are not too loud. Oh well though, just ordered from Logitech Z2300 speakers for the desk but it is pretty sad when the phone's ringtone completely drowns out the sound on the computer.

Yeah laptop speakers really have never impressed me. The ones on my 15" MBP are ok and the 17" are even better but nothing I would use for a daily music listening.

you should have heard how quiet they used to be before the last major update. i think 10.4.10 was the update that boosted them a few dBs

Just fyi, if you're playing a movie in Quicktime Player, you can hit Shift+Up to increase the volume beyond 100%. In VLC Player you can bring the volume to 400%. But yeah otherwise the volume sucks. I don't think it's the same with other laptops. My friend's IBM Thinkpad can go much louder than my MacBook.

Laptop speakers have never been too impressive. I just got a new Dell M90, and it sounds pretty good actually. It has a built in Sub-Woofer!

Yeah I have been using my Sennheiser cans when I listen to music or whatnot by myself but sometimes I just have the need for louder speakers. The Z2300s should be in this next week hopefully. Dell had them for $92 plus free shipping. Most others are about $125 shipped.
