The tech is cool, the implementation is awesome, but their execution is bullshit.

The phone is everything I need in one device, but antics like the $175 cancelation fee on a non-subsidized phone (subsidized I could understand) is bullshit. Having to sign up for a 2 year contract on a non-subsidized phone is also bullshit. Not announcing data plans until the launch is bullshit...unless its so low, they just don't want their competitors to know in advance...then it's :coold:

    I don't know...it doesn't sit well with me...and I'm a diehard Apple user.

I'd guess the iPhone still has some suprises left yet, I tend not to worry too much about what's comming until I can a) buy it and b) have seen user reviews. Makes life alot easier.

I got a little over a year left on my current contract, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm a free agent at the moment but I won't be an early adopter!

I'd hate to leave T-Mobile though; they've been good to me.

They should've just made it a PDA. I don't see any reason why Apple needed to enter the phone market, an area that is already flooded with many cheaper options that do more for less.

No 3G is idiotic on a phone designed with data in mind.
No replaceable battery is also idiotic on a phone designed to see the kind of use this one is supposed to see. Power users need extra batteries to swap in when needed.
Lastly, how will its RF performance and sound be. First off, it needs to be a PHONE and if that quality isnt good the rest is BS.

I'll wait for gen 2 and hopefully it will be 3G, have a replaceable battery and we'll then know how the actual phone performs.

I'm sure if Apple could find a way to make laptop batteries unreplaceable they would be doing it. I don't get that part of them and their design over practicality viewpoint on things.

Nobody is seriously going to carry extra batteries around for their phone, even "power" users. :ugh:

Of all the people I know that carry Blackberries, or the various HTC made WM5 pda phones, not a single one of these guys carry a spare battery. And these are guys that carry the devices for work.

i don't really care about 3g. what i'd use the iphone for is:

    1. seamless syncing (keyword = seamless)
    2. ipod and phone combined (since my car audio uses a hardwired ipod connector...less to carry)
    3. ical

    $600 doesn't bother me :o

as for the battery, i'm not too worried about it, i'd likely pick up applecare anyways...and if i buy on my amex i get 1yr additioanl for free

I do. Sometimes the battery drains faster than you expect. And sometimes you're never around an outlet or able to use one before going out. Thus I pop in the backup battery.

replacing the battery once the charge capacity gets low is much easier than sending it out to get it replaced.
