One of the authors at Handguns magazine finally got around to doing a 20,000rd torture test on the XD. :)
Maybe it will start getting some respect now. (although I doubt it)
The basic "glock test". water, mud, ice, drop, run over, etc.

Couple pics from the test that didn't make it into the magazine

I do like his method of removing the gun from the block of ice. Instead of chipping it with a hammer, just toss the damn thing on the concrete :)

Anything interesting to report from the test or did it just pass everything as expected?

according to the author it passed with no problems whatsoever. I am still waiting for the new issue of Handguns to show up here to read it.

Nice pic of a USP, now toss it in a bucket of sand. :)

    Environment test

    Low temp (-46 C, -51 F)
    High temp (63 C, 145 F)
    Thermal shock (-46 to +63 C)
    Mud bath (10 minutes exposure)
    Particulate (sand) (10 minute exposure)
    Freezing rain (1 hour to -46 C)

Don't show the sand test in the video, but they do bury a MG43 in the mud and fire it.. and a few other tests (water, deep freeze, etc)

The author put it in perfect words. It doesn't prove that the XD is better than other guns. All major handguns should be able to pass this test and probably would. This just proves that the XD is on par with them.

  15. The XD is a very solid design. I know more than a few guys who have set aside their beloved Glocks for the XD.

When I've got some spare cash laying around, I'll probably pickup an XD 9mm and shake it out.

The only hate I have for the xD is that... if I want a Glock, I'll buy a fucking Glock.

Since the XD is single action instead of DA like the Glock, uses SIG's Takedown and has 1911 style ergonomics, and only uses the Glock's trigger safety, I see two different guns. I carried a Glock and they are very different. If you want a Glock, buy it. If you hate the Glock, then try an XD. If you hate both, try one of the many other types :)
At least you know that the XD is as reliable as all the other major brands now.

You saw the thread on glocktalk too?

Cop loses weapon, crook tosses stolen weapon in drainage ditch, 2 years later, it's retrieved. Half the Glock fanboys on GT refuse to believe that a Glock could rust, let alone rust so bad it is not repairable and claim it's either photoshopped, or it's been submerged in an acid bath.
Glock has still not replied to the cop regarding this :)

I've had my XD for 9 months now and it hasn't rusted at all. You guys use that over and over and over and over to bash the XD... you should try to find something new that's wrong with it, you won't be able to though.

I think glocks are great guns.... but I honestly believe my XD is a better gun... which is why I bought it. I shot each of them numerous times and every time the XD was just so much nicer.

I have both, I'm selling the XD though. If I had bought a xd9 instead of an xdsc9, I probably would have never bought a G19, but oh well. Both are great and will serve you well.

No, not a traditional DA, but since the trigger is used to move the firing pin back and then release it, it falls into a quasi DA design that was one of Gaston's innovations. It also allows the Glock to be catagorized as a DA by the ATF, IPDA and USPSA. (although it's more like a 1/2 SA, 1/2 DA.)

The XD is similar to a 1911/HP in that the gun is fully cocked by the action of the slide and pulling the trigger just releases the sear. Because of this, the XD is classified as a SA by the ATF and IPDA (although USPSA finally recognized it's design and has allowed it for stock class use and there is a petition in with IPDA to allow it as well for stock class). It also allows a gunsmith to tune the XD trigger better because it has only one action to perform instead of the 2 actions in a Glock so you can have an XD trigger tuned to feel similar to a custom 1911 trigger job. (which my Service will be getting in about a month)

As for the old rusting complaint, that should be a thing of the past as well. Springfield is considering GunKoting all XDs imported. (although they now do Black-T finishing as well :naughty: ) Course just wiping the slide down with oil every other week like you would do with any other parkerized gun keeps it nice and clean so no biggie.
