I reformated my hard drive and reinstalled Windows and now my computer won't recognize my USP ports as 2.0, just 1.1 Is there a driver I have to install?

you obviously have not installed your chipset drivers and SP2... reformat and do so.

Why would he have to reformat?

I wasn't asking you, I was asking jolly. Why would he have to reformat after just doing so?

if he's trying to setup some USB 2.0 devices then he's likely installed a bunch of apps (and other crap) and his system is already doomed to run like crap.

*the FIRST thing to do after you format is install chipset drivers!!!*

Then you follow with other drivers, Anti-virus, Service Pack 2, windows updates, etc.

If you skip the chipset drivers, your system will never run like it should.

If you have SP2 installed goto your Device Manager and "uninstall" whatever devices have the exclamation mark next to it. Reboot your PC and it should automatically setup the USB ports. If it needs the drivers it will ask you, then you have to go online to your mobo makers website and get the drivers.

Can I just get these drivers from Intel or do I have to figure out what crappy mobo came with this Dell?

most mobo manufacturers do not include USB drivers. Likewise, Intel does not make USB chipsets. NEC and VIA are two popular makers -- but they do not release public drivers for Windows XP... You must use the drivers that come with SP1+.
