I'm doing JM presses at the end of my workout (2 sets of 120 and then a set of 115 because my triceps are freakin' weak) and some guy comes over right before my 3rd set and asks if he can work in. I say, "sure". Then I go to get a drink of water and he didn't ask for a spot (it was only 115). I come back from my drink of water and the bar is sitting on his chest and he is just holding it there. I first thought that he was going to just push it up really fast off his chest, and then I realized he was pinned. I kind of felt like an ass because he probably figured I would spot him but I thought it was just a warmup set for him and I didn't even bother to try to spot him.

115? He can help himself. Unless he weighs in at 79lbs soaking wet, which I doubt, considering you thought it was his warmup.... just let him handle that shit.

dont blame yourself, he couldve been another one of those guys who have big egos but couldnt handle it. but next time you see him and he goes at it again with the same weight or heavier, ask him if he needs a spot.

this happened to me once when i was doing 135lb last year, it was my 5th set and i just kept going at it... arm just gave out during the 2nd lift. figured it was because i havent ate enough..learned my lesson

Yeah, I walked back from the fountain and didn't think anything of it until I saw the weight wasn't moving for several seconds and I asked him if he needed a hand. Then I pulled it up off of him.

I told him if he is ever in the gym again when I'm there to just ask for a spot so I know not to wonder off.

Next time I'll have to just tip the bench up for him though.

lol thats his problem, if you aren't sure if you can do the entire set on your own, ask for some help, better safe than sorry, ESPECIALLY in a gym. its happened to everyone. you learn your lesson and put your ego to the side.

i see this shit all the time at my gym. there's a big fat sign behind me when i work that says if you need a spot you can ask us (my staff). but guys just have too much pride to ask for a spot. so now, if they get stapled, i don't help them until they ask for help. i hate the look they give when they do get stapled, and don't even bother to say anything. attracting attention when they're in need is far too damaging for their ego. idiots. what ticks me off even more is that they'll roll off the weight, and leave it on the floor without even bothering to re-rack all 95-135 lbs of weight on the bar. next time i see the a guy staple himself and not ask for help with the barbell, i'm gonna walk over to him, proceed to rack the weight, but instead do a set of 6 curls just to rub it in.

I don't like someone watching over me when I'm on the bench. I especially don't like someone's groin right in my face.

Never been stapled and never had to yell for a spot. Well, actually once, and my friend was right there but a little busy so a broly ran over and got it off me. "Spot please."
