If you want to do it, I'd get on it this week.

Go to Best Buy, buy a $15 "pay as you go" phone. drop out your sim card from your iPhone, put it in the crap phone.

    backup your phone in iTunes.

unhook the phone, go to settings > general > reset > erase everything.

if you are worried about someone being able to "read your data" it is easy. create a play list that is the size of the free space on the iPhone. plug in your phone, uncheck the "sync" options to sync your contacts, calendar info, ect (you don't want to copy this back over). copy over all the songs, videos again to "overwrite" your data. go to settings > general > reset > reset everything again

if you are really worried, do that a few times.

you can list it on ebay, they are going for $400-500 unlocked

i did craigslist because i wanted cash and didn't want to risk getting scammed

:mamoru: i bought second one off craigslist for $190 and it sold on ebay last night for $394

still not sure if i want to sell the iphone im using to get the new one. i like the new one but the data and text message plan prices kind of suck. i already hate paying $50 for the first gen but paying $65 is really pushing it

I'm currently paying $90 a month for Verizon, so getting the new iPhone will actually be cheaper for me :bigthumb:

In on this thread. Hopefully picking up a cheapass pay as you go phone tonight and listing my 8GB on eBay. Can't find the damn box to save my life though, think that'll affect the price? I'm after $320, or a 16GB after taxes.

    check out this http://gizmodo.com/394668/how-i-sold-my-iphone-in-24-hours-for-more-than-i-paid

as long as you can get together everything else you should be ok, i would think.

    sell it unlocked for more.

i was just happy with recovering the costs of a new 16gb phone

Looks like the box was tossed. Oh well, I should still be able to clear ~300 pretty easily with the unlocked phone, dock, USB cable, and wall charger.

Listed on eBay and ended up on page 8. I figured a buy-it-now of $375 would attract someone to snatch it up instead of trying to bid their way through a bunch of other ones.

Someone picked mine up on the $375 Buy It Now and wants to pay an extra $60 for Next Day UPS to Las Vegas

Can't wait to have a new 16GB iPhone 3G and $50 in my pocket! All for selling off a year old phone full of old technology.

I'm leaning more and more towards selling mine as well. I still have the box, mine does have a few dings though.

Screen is perfect, small scratch on the back cover. Only things included were charger, cable, dock, and headphone adapter.

Followed it to the T. :wavey:

Yesterday I put my 1st gen 8gig iPhone on Craigslist for $250. I made sure to mention that it's unlockable.

Within an hour I got about 7 emails offering me $200 or $225 for it. I replied to the first person offering $225 asking them if they could wait untill Friday because that's when I'll be getting a new phone. They said sure as long as I hold it.

Thanks for buying me a brand new iPhone lady. Now I just have to decide if I want to spend the $75 to get the 16 gig. :hs:

I just checked my local craigslist, some are listing their 8GB for as low as $200. Maybe I'll end up keeping mine and just cough up the $200 for a new 8GB.
