I has pics. I had the owner shoot some at f/4 and f/22 so I could look at sharpness. Momma didn't raise no fool!

    argh! I'm selling a 17-40 :wtc:

    buy a 5d

    then get a 24-70 or 24-105 and you're set

Sometimes you have to move quick.

I saw this come up on Craigslist and snapped it up. :x:

    I can one-up you. I bought a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 used because I was dead-set on the D80 I had used. Then I borrowed someone's 40D and realized I was making a mistake. :o

I still haven't bought the camera yet and I sold the lens.

The 5D is being considered. But why would I buy another zoom lens with overlapping focal length? The next lens will be the 70-200 f/2.8L I'll pick up a 50mm prime to cover the medium length.

    f/4 gets old real quick :dunno: I sold my 24-105 f/4 IS L for a 24-70 f/2.8 L. Why? f/4 blows. - even with IS.

I agree F/4 blows if you're shooting in shitty low light conditions. I bought this lens mainly for exterior shots and interior shooting with lights or other conditions where I can control the lighting.

If you do go this route... Please buy the 50 f/1.4 over the 50 f/1.8 or go all baller on us, and get the 50 f/1.2L

The 50mm 1.8 got very good reviews for such a cheap lens. According to fredmiranda.com it's rated slightly higher than the 1.4 lens.

then again....consumer reviews are like assholes.....everyone's got one.

it's slower to focus in low light, and it's much cheaper built.

You forget that I spent the last 40 years doing my own focusing instead of letting the camera do it. :x:

well.. then I should also add that I hate the focus ring on the 1.8 :mamoru: it's not that the f/1.8 doesn't produce good images, jmo that the 1.4 is a better all around lens.

What focus ring? :mamoru: It's just like the 18-55 kit lens. I want the 1.4 so bad. Actually, I want a 28 f/1.8 real bad. Yeah.

don't get the 50 1.8. you will want to shoot yourself every time you use the focus ring. it's not damped and it has a short travel.
