For the same price you could've gotten the D40 with a tamron 17-50 f/2.8....Now that would be a good starting kit, an come to think of it, it prob. wouldve been cheaper. I've never heard anything from the 55-200 (good OR bad). $900 just seems a bit much, man. Cameta Camera is actually like 5 mins from my house, they usually have some pretty cheap stuff but they're pricks sometimes. I have to go there later to get a cleaning kit for my sensor.

im fine with my order. its my first slr camera. im not looking for any really expensive lenses right now. i mainly just want to get used to the camera.

however, its not too late to change the order.

we've dealt with them twice and they're great people.

that kit doesn't look bad but I would have passed on the d40. but the lenses aren't horrible but they aren't great either. $830 for 2 meh lenses, an external flash and everything that comes with the d40 isn't that bad (including shipping).

Also note that the Tamron becomes a manual focus zoom on the D40.

You'd probably be better off at least getting a D50 (no worrying about having to find AF-S lenses) and an SB-600. My D40 sits on a shelf now and only comes out if I don't want/need to lug my D200 around. It makes a great learning camera, but I think a D50 or D70 would do you just as well and the price difference (especially on the D50) is negligible.

man you should have gotten the d50 all day. the only thing better on the d40 that i like more than my d50 is the bigger lense.
