a wd green drive without voiding my warranty?
You cant open it w/o voiding.
Windows should be able to see the serial number of the drive, look it up on wd's site
MICRONET FANTOM DRIVE USB Device
that is all that shows up in the device manager....
Plug it into a Kill-A-Watt meter and look at the wattage usage. If it more/less jives with the Green drive's power consumption, then there you go.
That being said, why do you care if it's Green or Blue or Black? Not that it's very likely to be anything but Green, though, because external drives generally don't perform well enough to make high-performance disks worth the extra cost.
It's still going to end up in a land fill sooner or later...
I need low power performance because I"m moving to Armenia in 2 months and dont' want to overload any electricity I might have.
In that case, what you really want is a laptop hard drive in an external case. They use so little power they can run off a single USB port, sometimes two. (That's somewhere between 2.5-5 watts, FYI.)
But I also want the 1TB
get seagates utility, it will tell you what drive you have inside that case
thank you, but where do I find this?
I actually just tried Drive Detect and it didnt see my USB drive, only my internal ones.
