Well, I already figured out why the ram doesn't work.. my PC's ram was PC100, this stick is PC133.. and a 512mb 168pin stick of pc100 is $35 more than the already $65 pc133, :rl:

Now onto the video card.. I bought this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102477 (ATI 9800 Pro) and installed it in my computer, and everything was going fine until I tried to install the drivers. Right after the install wizard started and the ATI screen popped up, my monitor went blank and a cursor started blinking in the top left corner. The only way to get out of it was to do a cold reboot. Anyone know what I can do?

the card probably doesn't work with your ancient mobo. put money into a new mobo/cpu/ram combo, instead.

I am starting to consider that now.. I've already spent ~$200 on this PC, I might as well go all out and get a new one, or build one via newegg.com

Any idea as to what specifically could be causing the screen to go blank after a few minutes?

PC133 is backwards compatible so that shouldn't be the issue on why the memory not working.

not true. With SDRAM you have the issue of double sided and single sided. You also must consider that not all motherboards like mixing existing PC-100 with PC-133... It doesn't always downclock gracefully.
