Yes, I am that guy. I hate looking like shit in uniform, and the ACU's look like shit if you don't iron them. After so many years of shining boots and dry cleaning my uniform it's hard to accept the new wash-n-wear/dirtbag appearance of the military. I would kill someone to be able to wear green or black jungle boots again. :wtc:

You can still wear them until April 30th. :dunno:

EDIT: Except for the jungle boots.

I'm in TRADOC right now, and wearing BDU's makes you a target for some unknown reason. I really liked the look of a pressed uniform and shined jungle boots. Shining my boots at night was my time to watch tv and relax.

im in the same boat, chief. Im stuck fucking wearing ACUs with perfectly good BDUs still pressed in my closet. I never once did like ironing or shining my boots, but Id go back to it in a heartbeat. It made me feel and look more professional. And id like to be able to wear my branch on my collar again.

I don't miss ironing but I do miss looking sharp. Creases will be back. Count on it.

I feel bad for all that lost revenue that the local korean dry cleaning place is suffering from. Will no one think of the asians when they make military policies?

Good try, but AR 670-1 states that the ACU will not be dry cleaned, sized, or steamed. Dry ironing to remove wrinkles is not against regulations. Understanding the regulations is the key. Like I said, good try.

    Wash and Wear Policy

"SOLDIERS WILL NOT STARCH THE ARMY COMBAT UNIFORM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THE USE OF STARCH, SIZING, AND ANY PROCESS THAT INVOLVES DRY-CLEANING OR A STEAM PRESS WILL ADVERSELY AFFECT THE TREATMENTS AND DURABILITY OF THE UNIFORM AND IS NOT AUTHORIZED"

    wash & wear ftw.

Tip #454234 Remove from dryer pronto and learn how to fold neatly....then the ACU's don't look so shitty.

Part of me misses the BDU cause I did like looking sharp Monday morning. But once I started working on our base cable team that pretty much killed it for me. After crawling in ceilings and under houses as long as my uniform is clean I'm good:o

Low heat, just to get the wrinkles out and make the pockets lay flat.

The trick to wash-n-wear uniforms is proper folding.

did you iron a crease into your BDU pants also? I hate that they expect me to do that here. I have the cleaners that do the stuff for the base take care of it for me though. I need to learn how to iron before the beginning of summer vacation though. 20 something days of suck is most likely heading my way.

I refuse on a matter of principle. That name tape was issued to me and therefore must meet the standard.

 I used to tell my sons something similar.

Son: "I'm gonna do drugs if I want to and you can't stop me."
Me: "You do whatever you can afford. I hope you can afford food, clothes, and a place to sleep." :squint:

Son: "But it's fun to drive fast."
Me: "You do whatever you can afford. The tickets are yours, the increased insurance costs are yours, and the revoked drivers license... well that won't be yours, will it?" :hsugh:

I used that line more times than I can remember. I've probably cursed any grandchildren I ever get with having it used on them too. :mamoru:

It sucks that you have to resort to that. I don't wear any of my badges in ACU's, mainly because I hate how the pin on shit looks. Only when I break out the dress uniform, do I get all prettied up.
