I'm going to Paris (museums & touristy stuff), Normandy (omaha beach), Cabo San Lucas, South Africa (most likely will go on a wildlife tour), Guatemala City (nephew's bday).

I have an XTi with the kit lens & a 50mm/1.4.

What other lens would you recommend? I would guess I'd want something with some decent zoom to it, especially for the South Africa trip.

the 50mm should be great for most everything else, and if i need wider, i'll hookup the kit lens.

    :dunno:

My choices would be four lenses. One fixed focal length wide angle around 20-24mm, one fast 50mm lens, a good long throw zoom around 75mm to 300mm and a 600mm fixed focal length lens.

However if you were only able to take one lens, I'd take a zoom with a range somewhere around 30mm to 135mm. This range will cover 80% of your shots.

i really like that 50mm, but have a feeling i'd like something wider and definitely something with more zoom. that 18-200 looks interesting

so, if i really only had room for 2 lenses, would you use the 50mm to walk around with, and the 18-200 for 'special' shots?

What kit lens did it come with? if you have the 17-85, that is a pretty damn good "all-rounder." :dunno:

not really a good "all around" lens though.

I'd say go for that sigma I linked...

you're better off with a 2.8. Better pictures. I used the 3.5-5.6 before too.
