Why? Because for months i have concentrated on shit like seated rows, and lat pulldowns, close grip, wide grip, v bar it doesn't really make any difference. But now i have just started concentrating on doing 4 sets of pullups first, before any other work so i'm still fresh, and my lats are still slightly sore to touch 2 days later. I never got that kind of reaction with focusing on rows...

    Opinions?

it's pretty much accepted by everyone that pullups are the best exercise for the lats. things like pulldowns are there to assist those who aren't strong enough to do pullups or to act as a supplement pullups since you can work a greater range of motion with pulldowns than pullups.

i ended up doing them last, somehow they got pushed behind deadlifts, and lat pulldowns, and seated rows, and by the end of the workouts i was too fucked to do them properly :o

I like widegrip for back/lats, but underhand narrow grip is awesome for biceps

You might want to try single arm pulldowns. (aswell)

Do you grab the middle of the bar for that?

Out gym has a few bars, but i find the V bar the best for pulldowns (your hands are right next to eachother). I don't know why, but you can squeeze your lats together with it.

i just use the single arm attachment, the same piece you would use 2 of for things like cable xovers.

Ah, that little handle thing? For some reason I feel like I can adjust my pull/target muscles easier with the grip I use on the rope for stuff like lat/tri pulldowns :dunno:

    the lat master agrees :eek3:

I feel like i just started developing lats. Could never get them sore till recently. I started doing standing pullovers on the cable machine with the wide grip pull down bar. I saw one of the Olympia competitors doing it in a bodybuilding.com video. That one gets me sore the most

For pullups he said to start from the fully stretched position and pull-up to parallel only. Going any higher is all biceps rather than back :dunno:

    Found it...Quincy Taylor.
