I think the fact that you actually realize that you have a short fuse will take you a long way. Are you able to control it with thus knowledge?

Well you needn't have to pay for anything. Even in a country without socialist leanings there's a community teat to nurse on.

Pasadena Mental Health Center was founded in 1965 by members of the community interested in the provision of mental health services to individuals who had limited access to services in the private sector.
... surrounding areas with a wide variety of intervention and prevention programs aimed at enhancing quality of life, maintaining emotional health, and preventing individual and family dysfunction.

Pasadena isn't that far from Covina. You could at least try.

  5. I used to have an awful time controlling my anger. What helped me was the fact that I stopped trying to control it, but instead now choose to simply be content to manage it.

Anger isn't something that should be avoided, but rather it's the build up of anger and rage that needs to be handled. Not expressing anger is what often led me to doing foolish things when I'd had enough. Today I've learned to communicate as effectively as I can - even when I'm angry - and while I can't always get someone to understand my feelings, I do express those feelings as clearly as I can. I believe that I don't necessarily need another person to hear or even agree with my angry feelings if I verbalize them - the mere fact that I'm saying it is enough for me to feel I've done my part in warning the person, and I feel better because I've handled my anger responsibly. If the other person wants to act like a jerk, and something they say or do pushes me even after I've expressed myself - I may yell, but....I manage without losing my head. Sometimes if the violation requires yelling, that's all it takes to show someone you mean business.

I look at anger like this: Managing anger is a sign of self respect. If I allow another person to trigger in me the reaction of my temper, they've dominated me, they've controlled me. So perhaps you can consider these tools when you're facing a challenge that leads to anger. It may take time - but like any bad habit it may turn into a strength that leads to your feeling better about yourself.
